Purple pads have become extremely popular recently - they really are good. we run them with galfer wave rotors 2mm, often 223 upfront and 203 rear on XT brakes. The real answer is Mavens with hs2 rotors.

As someone who thinks rampage is in a good spot right now, I would love to see an event that does big mountain riding like Brage’s videos.

Just dialing out vertical compliance and dialing in some steering dampening. Or maybe adding fore-aft compliance? I joke, but seriously, the way OneUp bars are made, rolling them substantially out of axis should negate most of the benefits of the construction and move it to another plane. Not exactly giving steering compliance (steering torques are low anyway), but you can genuinely get some fore-aft compliance. Which in some cases I found beneficial (need to grip the bars a bit less than with a very stiff handlebar).

I spent more time than I would like to admit trying to fix my shifting. It would shift fine for some of the cassette but some gears I couldn't get to work right no matter how i adjusted. i even replaced a derailleur hanger. Turns out i routed the cable of my shimano derailleur backwards.

With shimano's new release, i cant help feel disappointed by the lack of Power increase(and no change in feel, other than no wandering point), still have to use big rotors and decent pads to get them up there with most other options. definitly not worth 'upgrading' if you put Putoline in your current X200 series

But isn’t all this bending moot after you bolt on the wheel?

I'm sure those are a great option and bearings definitely create a more durable pivot but isn't it more fun to make something yourself? The higher leverage levers I've designed are a bit longer than those as well since I'm starting with a slightly lower hydraulic ratio. Definitely not advocating that what I'm doing makes sense economically or time investment...

Fully external routing: fine. Internal routing, guided: fine. Internal routing, unguided, with large entrance and exit ports: also generally fine. Internal routing, unguided, with small entrance and exit ports: not fine. Through the headset: fuck all the way off.

I've made my opinion on this pretty clear in the past, but.... As a bike shop mechanic, I'm fine with properly routed, internally guided routing that actually improve how the bike works. Yeti, SC, Intense and many other brands have had this for years and it makes for extremely clean, effortless routing, save for Yeti's bullshit dropper routing that pops up in front of the 90 degree corner and catches easy on the frame. There are other brands that offer simple routing that pops out easily and don't take long to sort as well that's not bad. This type of...

If it’s internal, all guided. No excuse if it’s carbon (Looking at you Pivot!) If it’s external, do something slick like GT’s Groove Tube or GG’s hatch. Though I’m not the biggest fan of the dropper entering the same side. Also, routing cables under the BB needs to stop. Like 10 years ago.

One of my favorite places when I lived in Oregon. Real shame. Ultimately I’m a firm believer that a rider is responsible for their decisions regardless of the quality of trail. But with price of health care and the weak social programs this country has to offer people like the rider I can’t blame them too much for seeking compensation either. Hopefully they can address their liability issues and find a way to reopen.

IMO, Red Bull TV is also "large, corporate media." But they've mostly done a good job with the WCDH broadcasts and I loved being able to watch the replays after work for free. I really hope a free viewing option remains and that the quality of coverage--camera angles, commentary, etc--doesn't drop with this move.

I won't jump to conclusions just yet since this is still a ways away. But I have to appreciate the ease of using the RedBull TV app on my phone and TV to watch races. Honestly a real luxury that I guess I took for granted ! Hopefully Discovery does a decent job with it. RedBull fit well into the whole UCI race campaign with RedBull athletes making mini series and the fact that this is more of a niche sport anyways. Redbull was a huge improvement over the FreeCaster days. I'm sure it comes down to money and RedBull...

Total side point here, I did the review of the OG Reserve 30s. I still have them and they are still working awesome. I've re-laced the rear wheel once, and just popped 2 spokes yesterday inferring I may need to do it again. Never in my life have I seen such great rim durability, to the point where you need to continually relace the wheel before you end up breaking the rim. For those wondering, I used to run cushcore, now I usually just run DH casing. Rim strikes do happen. Point I'm making, I know nothing about the Roval...
