The 840wh battery just gave a huge middle finger to the recent trend that were pigeon holed into 600wh (looking at you, Vala 👀)
5000ft vertical in trail mode on my Vala, I don’t want or need to zoom round with 100nm, quite happy with my dialled down 60, still able to put in plenty of effort.
E-bikes have predictably become an arms race for power/torque.

I don't want to devolve this into a ebike battery thread... (but I can't resist)
I burned through ~85% of an 800w battery on the gen 5 motor in around 2 hours. Granted it was a little cold outside and I weigh ~180lbs. But 5k climbing isn't that much for a weekend ride when you've got a motor. I'm sure the Vala is a great bike and you can use a range extender. But I think a lot of consumers are scratching their head with the forced 600wh move.
I'm betting a lot of people will appreciate an 840wh battery in the Specialized, good on them. Looking forward to laughing at the 13k price tag though.
I thought this comment, from the Escape Collective's Cape Epic coverage, was interesting and wonder how it stacks uo against Fox Neo...
"A few riders using Flight Attendant had buttons in highly convenient locations and noted the need to be able to quickly unlock the suspension when a smaller bump or rut was coming up as the system, as good as it is, seemingly cannot react quickly enough for their needs. "
After that many years and issues on the same platform, it would have been a good time to rename the Float X2 to Float X3 to try to differentiate it from the unreliable last version 😅
It is weird they haven’t changed that, especially as its a monotube design now. If I remember it correctly the purpose of the “2” was originally to highlight it being a twin tube design.

Correct. Same change from the dpx2 to the float x.

Apologies if I missed it (I’ve only consumed about 800 of the 846 pages in this forum while I shoulda been working or parenting) but is the 38 imminently due for a release?
Assuming it’ll have a a staggered announcement like all these others trickling out but haven’t seen much chatter about the 38. Burly single crowns are my jam.
I vaguely recall some talk of a Fox USD fork a while back but not much else in the forums about a new 38 so wondering whether it’ll get a major overhaul or the same kind of incremental updates as the 36.

good eyes. has the cutout arch ala the 34/36 SL. wonder what's going on with the dongle on the bottom of the drive side lowers? reminds me of the 40 penis from early days of that fork

All they really need to do is add that glidecore spring to the updated grip x2 38, as they have improved bushing overlap anyway.
After spending some time on it, it’s basically a mandatory feature for me now.
HBO is a nice "safety" feature - you can make a good shock without it so I'm not sure if its a deal breaker but I would definitely prefer HBO than externally adjustable High speed rebound.

Keeps you from breaking frames from repeated bottoming. If I was an OEM I'd be interested in HBO to cut down on warranties, particularly on aluminum frames with lifetime warranty.

Forum rats: "Why didn't they release the 36 wtih 170mm support? These larger stanchions (like the 38) are only to make ebikes look better"
Whats your favorite single crown for,\k of all time, Forum Rat?

Yup but energy and heat aren't the same thing - a small alloy bolt only needs a small amount of energy to raise its temperature while a comparatively large shock needs far more energy to heat it to the same amount. Point a heat gun at a shock bolt for 5 seconds then pick it up - it will probably be too hot to handle, but do that to a shock and it will be barely any warmer than before, even though received the same amount energy (probably not quite because surface area but you get the point).
I think the reason I mentioned it was with the Scott specifically I have worked on those bikes and found the fit of the bushings at the trunnion mount crazy tight so it was a possibility, unlike normal eyelets. Also heat is slow to be conducted across 2 different parts, so for it to be able to transfer the energy through the threads of the bolt and outside the frame would mean the shock is getting REALLY hot
Do temps of mountain bikes shocks really matter, when you can just tune it for a given temperature range? If you know during a DH run your shock will be in the 40-55C range, just tune it for that range. Its not like thats outside the envelope of what suspension oil can handle.
Anyways, ignore what I said above, I'm developing a new product thats a Graphene additive to your suspension fuild that makes it 28.99% more tempurature stable, which in real life testing improves your suspension performance by at least 1 place on the poduim, even if you're not racing and just out on a solo ride.

There was the redacted post about the new Enduro fork, but that could be the 39 and not the 38 based on what was confirmed in the post.
Battery is side loading, so hopefully there'll be no Trek like issues with it.
Swat is at the top.
111nm is only for SWorks apparently and the rest are 101. Although it's just a firmware update.
... so I'm reliably informed.

Oh the Levo can take an extender too which bumps it to 1100ish... might even be more.

Anyone else feel like no HBO is a huge miss?

Nothing 38 has been officially rumoured yet... i think it's safe to say it's an inevitable rumour.

Nice sleuthing chriskief - you get 8 1/2 Sherlocks out of 10 for that one.
Finkill, pic angle makes it look like you stumbled across a proto fork for that 32/29er mullet all the XCers are getting hot and heavy over!
