Not dissing on the stroke shift dude, but piercing 2 bean shaped holes in a plate would warrant a patent ? smh
If I remember it well, you can actually file a patent for anything (patent or enveloppe afaik about the FR/EU regulations). BUT
- it does not guarantee your product will be defensible if it doesn't have any technical advantages regarding competition at the time the patent is filed
- it does not protect your product from being copied based on the patent (case of the enveloppe apart) -or even for a similar patent to be filed- if YOU don't watch out for new files: one can complaint within 3-6 months after the competiting file has been registered (again, if my memory is good)
- what it actually does is guaranteing your product has an anteriority on the market and therefore that you can go against a competitor that would copy your design (that AND a proof of sales)
...so yeah, 2 bean shaped holes in a plate can be filed for a patent, but at this point imo it's just a marketing thing.

Lots of patents are granted that don't make a lot of sense. I track suspensions patent is one that rubs me the wrong way. Scattershot patenting of every idler placement conceivable that doesn't have it mounted to main pivot or front triangle. Not a patent lawyer or anything but if it was challenged in court I wouldn't think it would have held up, but now Norco and intense are working with them.

Then finish it off with pounding back 4 IPAs and some cake later that day.

The "efficiency" loss of a gearbox on a slog of a climb, is prolly 10 fold compared to heavier wheels, tires, and 38, and all those are benefits when slapping light blue berms and rollers, where the gearbox doesnt seem to offer much benefit in those applications.
What makes you think it's installed upside down? And why can't it be good to overlap the hose?
I'm guessing he's talking about having the hose so close to the rotor like that may run the risk of cooking the hose and the brake fluid in it? Also having it that close is probably increasing the chances of it contacting the rotor? I can't help but think that looking at the hose's banjo connection, that it might be the caliper needs to be spun around 180deg?
*Edit* Or the the connection turned to the side and the hose routed up the other side of the fork leg?
It's not a problem, the rotor will contact the hose only when you are inserting the wheel, and even the hardly.
Single piece calipers always have the plugs on the outside, there isn't enough space for them on the inside.
As for the hose, it won't really be a problem, it's not that close and there's airflow. Weird way to mount a banjo to the caliper, that is true (I prefer the way it is done on Codes), but still. And never route the hose in the outside of the fork.

And no, DH tires alone are definitely a much bigger difference than between a crude bike and a gearbox bike when pedalling up.

It takes a lot of R&D to determine the correct bean.

A while back I rode a Zerode at a demo day, it climbed just fine, rear suspension felt incredible on the way back down.
