Departs from 2 teams in 3 months.  Now has "advisors and lawyers" to deal with the rumors surrounding the circumstances.  I'll withhold judgment until more facts come out, but I'll be very surprised if Daprela comes out of this clean.

His "advisors and lawyers" have to be losing their damn minds over these statements to the press.  Not sure how things work in France, but as both an attorney and avid fan of American football, I know how these situations are supposed to be handled in the US: you have one of your "advisors or lawyers" issue, or draft for you to issue, a public statement that says nothing in a competent and measured manner, explain that you can't comment for legal reasons, project confidence by claiming that look forward to all the facts coming to light and clearing your name, refuse any questions, etc.  But the one thing you do not do under any circumstances whatsoever is make garbled, cryptic, nonsensical, off-the-cuff statements to the press.

I don't mean to minimize the much more important human aspects of all this that others have done a good and impressively measured job of addressing.  It's just that to me it makes the whole thing even more bizarre that he is claiming a team of "advisors and lawyers" and then doing asinine shit like this interview.

And making an Insta post without anticipating the need to shut off the comments right out the gate was completely bush league.  In his version of events, people maliciously smeared him to the point of getting him fired.  Did it really not occur to a "advisor or lawyer" that someone might make a comment to a social media post, and that it might be negative and probably incendiary.  Do they not have pinkbike in France?

I'm actually starting to talk myself into the idea he is making up the "advisors and lawyers."  Or maybe he just keeps getting fired for insubordination.

This “discussion “ needs to be moved to its own place or we should maybe lock the thread. 2024 is over

@Jason_Schroeder any chance this can move to it's own corner?

I've got daughters so not belittling the seriousness, but it's no longer "Team Rumours" oriented.

The adverse publicity just from the allegation may have been enough for them to let him go.

I would have thought he would've been charged by now if the police (and the prosecution service) believed there was a case, seeing as this goes all the way back to last summer. From what I've seen he hasn't been, although I don't know if laws on confidentiality are different in France to the UK. I say this because a guy I know was falsely accused of rape, was charged and named by the press within a couple of weeks of the accusation. Charges were then dropped due to his accuser admitting she'd lied just before it went to court (it still ruined his life though, over 10 years later some people still say there's no smoke without fire).

I'm in no way defending Daprela, just trying to keep an open mind at this point. Do people who are stating he's a rapist know it for a fact, or have they just based it on comments they've seen on social media?

This is all true, but sexual assault is a crime that is famously hard to prosecute, at least in the US. Not sure about France, but...

Nowadays it's a pretty easy crime to prosecute in most of Europe, in fact you just need the word of the victim. That's probably why Canyon packed the bags early. They know if there's a official complaint Daprela is done legally and socially - regardless of whether he's guilty or not

Rape is considered in our society among the most heinous crimes, and the mere allegations can ruin a man's life forever.

As other poster said, the legal french system actively prosecutes these types of crimes in the most earnest way, if Daprela has done anything wrong rest assured he surely would pay for it. In the mean time I think it's best to refrain from throwing such serious accusations to the wind.

Why would you make stuff up when what you say is clearly not true ? There are multiple cases both in us and eu where people got accused by multiple women and still walked Scott free even when they were known for maybe not being rapists but having really shitty and sleazy reputation.

Hell what about the high profile Luc Besson thing that went away. Hell France had much smaller me too wave than us. But sure tell us of a case where someone got convicted and the only evidence was the word of mouth of the victim . I’d like to see it given I work in the movie industry which was the center of many allegations and somehow have not seen what you say

I have always thought from interviews that Thibaut is a bit of a golden retriever. He does not seem to be the deepest of thinkers.

We've seen Mr Bomba back on DH sled, took part in the first Portugal cup. Could this have something to do with Daprela leaving and Borges officially on E-EDR? Dante getting bumped back to factory spot, Bomba to Dainese DH as well as E-EDR when possible? Would be fun to see him and Moir in some DH race.

He says to an audience of grown men posting rumors about who will ride what brand of kids toy in the upcoming year.

In other news, Mathieu van der Poel has extended his contracts with both his current team Alpecin-Deceunink (until 2028) and Canyon (until 2034, one of the longest deals in cycling history).

Either way, what do we do? Do we continue dragging his name through the mud based on rumors of allegations? What if hes not innocent? Should there be no consequences just because the legal system isn't reliable or effective? How is anyone to know?

Did you take your daily dose of horse dewormer yet?

I was frankly shocked to read about his contract, especially considering that he is 29 now.

After his dominance in CX this past season and the way he worked for Phillipsen at MSR shows that he’s probably going to to be at the top for a while, but I can’t see someone in their mid to late 30s winning that much these days.

Part of the reason I have 0 trust in our legal system for this topic is the man who single handedly killed the #metoo movement: Joe Biden.

Regarding your horse dewormer comment, I'm curious, where do you get your news and information from? Ivermectin was developed for use with humans, it has been dosed on humans billions of times, it has an incredible safety profile, its on the UN list of essential medicines (again, for people), and the inventor received the Noble Prize.

Joe Rogan was prescribed Ivermectin from his doctor, and purchased it from a Pharmacy (not a veterinary clinic).

The Rolling Stone article about gunshot victims waiting in ERs full of Ivermectin overdoses was 100% made up. Even the photos from the article aren't from the hospital named, aren't from the time of year the story alleges, and were years old before the article was published. There actually isn't a recorded instance of Ivermectin overdose, its nearly impossible to ingest enough. The trope of stupid hick MAGA people taking horse-sized doses of Ivermectin not only is completely made up, its so out of touch with reality as the demographic targeted for ridicule doesn't even believe that COVID is a serious illness worth treating with anything.

Fair.

Of course, when Gee and MvdP started their careers, it was unheard of to have winners of multiple TdF under the age of 25...

I wonder how it works with MvdP being signed to a bike brand over a team. Does that mean what every team he rides on until '34 will be on Canyon too (a bit like Sagan and Specialized now I come to think of it).
