Hello Vital MTB Visitor,
We’re conducting a survey and would appreciate your input. Your answers will help Vital and the MTB industry better understand what riders like you want. Survey results will be used to recognize top brands. Make your voice heard!
Five lucky people will be selected at random to win a Vital MTB t-shirt.
Thanks in advance,
The Vital MTB Crew
I hear what you're saying, but go take a look at the injection-molded backside of Richie's bashguard that you can see in the non-drive pic. If you dremeled off enough material to get rid of the MRP logo you would have dremeled away the entire bashguard in the process. I think that's what Noah is referring to.
Looks like a 38mm Marzocchi is going to be released during Rampage.
Their website seems to suggest the Shiver name could be coming back.
Judging by the caption they'll be calling it the Super T or something along those lines.
"Rampage is here and something Super is roaming the desert. "
oh look, a fox 38 with different stickers
Ehm, those lowers are completely different? Unlike previous marzocchi forks that used older fox lowers.
That would be suitable for electrical tape treatment which would also double up as mud buildup prevention nicely.
Or for a treatment with a gob of Lord 310 A/B.
what the hell is that helvetica-ass typeface on the lower?? we want gothic script!
At 4:05 you can see the space, or void is filled with something, so the tape isnt there to keep mud out. I think theres carbon in the void of the that the tape is covering up.
But why cover it up?
Theres definitively something other than tape in there, and why would you need tape to keep mud out when theres something already in there?
Additional stiffness?
vibration dampening?
adjustable compliance?
Space age polymer adding lightness?
Its all wildly speculative on my part
I'm too lazy to search for the images, but Gamux doesn't machine I-beams for their frame members, but lattice beams IIRC. The moto foam/tape covers are just there to prevent mud accumulation.
Maybe that's just a plastic cover with some blue masking tape to make it pop a bit more?
The flex should be engineered into the aluminium structure itself. Adding carbon will just add complications.
Fox is pushing hard to bring freeride back (and 27.5) using 'zocchi's heritage. Even then, the lowers look very long, going beyond the dropouts, maybe this has more than 180mm of travel.... or its made for 26"! (The bike is built to be barspinable,so it makes kind of sense) cartdridge adjuster looks new too
Maybe it's a Travis with a (backwards) crown?
DAMPING
TEAMROBOT out here doin work so we don’t have to.
Anyone notice during the Snowshoe Semi-Finals and Finals race runs that Loic has a little box strapped onto his downtube? The box doesn’t ever appear to be there during practice or in the pits.
Also, did anyone notice that in his Semi-Finals run that there was a green light on his top crown? I’ve seen other times when there is a green light coming from the buttons on his handle bar, but just caught this light on his top crown.
Any ideas what is going on with this little box and handle bar buttons?
These screen grabs are from the Semi-Finals race footage.
I think it's been proposed before that they show his splits live? 3 greens in the top left, green on the bars.
What are the rules for the pit "communicating" with the bike/rider?
Looks like Vittoria is working on their own version of the Assegai.
Hmmm live split times would be interesting. I suppose the box strapped onto the downtube could be a gps system?
Though the wire going into the head tube from the buttons on his handle bar make me wonder if they are connected to his rear shock? i.e. different valving maps, lock out, etc. I know others have previously thought he could have some type of electronic shock.
The box is a gps to have live info for the top riders during finals. I Think it's how they show speed in real time.
I don't see any ressemblance other than color and roundness.
If you look when he rides off after crashing in the finals at Snowshoe the light is still green. So I doubt its split timing. More likely green for open dampening???
Some suggested a GPS location…could it be that they adapt the damping depending of it GPS location on the Track?
E.g the device has two regimes and switches between the rough and pedal section? 🤷🏼
„damping“
Would be sick if it was a coil fork. The bomber is incredible good
The GPS box has nothing to do with his handlebar control for the shock. It's provided to many of the riders by the broadcaster.
They discuss it here (0:26) while installing it on one of the Canyon bikes earlier in the season...
Other riders with it on their bikes...
The GPS box is not used for timing the rider, only for the broadcast?
I'm thinking here, if it was used for timing, mounting it further back on the bike, if passing a certain point on the track was the start marker, should make for a faster time. DH racing is a standing start formula and if the box 'crosses the line' later, it will do so at a higher speed. Thus the average speed over the distance should also be higher and thus the time shorter?
Looks like another new swingarm in MSA…
