Fake news Blake Laughing

I just pulled the clip of GM's flat in his race run and pulled his qualifying run helmet cam.

GM DID had gloves on in both runs.  At the finish of World Champs, gloves are off AFTER he finally makes his way to the bottom. Probably gave them to a rabid fan track side to pull his tire off.

Broadcaster said he was gloveless as he came out tne gate

Shorts in DH sound cool until you have a track where a contortion catches the opening on your bar or brake lever.  That was a good enough reason guys moved away from them is it happened a little too often.  But for World Cup racing...they're in the past.

I can’t think of anyone since Steve Peat at Canberra in ‘09 if we’re including Champs as a WC

2015 multiple WC Winners in shorts; notable ones are Gwin chainless run Leogang win, Josh Bryceland last 26" victory in MSA

Damn I was way off!

Last 26” victory is fitting for Ratboy.

Amaury Pierron won at Fort William in 2018 in shorts.

Yeah, I know. My comment was tongue in cheek as Ric is always going on about no riders from NZ wearing gloves.

If you're catching shorts on your brake levers you have bigger problems.

Yeah. the back of the seat is the only issue I've ever had.

I've caught shorts on the end of my bar before doing a low speed steep techy turn lol. Was straight up not a good time. Switched to pants soon after

I’ve caught my pants on things too, the only difference i can think of is the opening of the shorts getting caught over the seat if you’re super tall, otherwise all the same problems can happen.

You'd be surprised.  I've done it in DH shorts myself. At one point, when a lot of us were buying tall crowns for our forks, the upper part of the stanchion could catch on the opening of shorts even.  Had that happen.

At one point on the circuit, we had several pros I rode with switch because of a nasty crash someone had getting their short caught on their bar.

Is it so much the shorts or the bagginess? With how aero concerned downhill is getting I don't think we have to worry about anyone getting their Jnco's caught on their grips.

Update from Cami:

As most of you might know I had the biggest crash in my career in Vallnord, Andorra. I was blown by a sudden wind gust on the road gap in my quali run, apparently crashed hard on the landing.
As of today, I don’t remember the accident.

I’m suffering from a moderate head trauma and contusions in my chest, but no broken bones.
I’ll be staying in a neuro rehabilitation center in Switzerland for a few weeks but should make full recovery.

I’m very sad and disappointed to miss the rest of the season but getting better and taking care of my head is the priority right now.
Thank you to my family, team, sponsors and fans for the love and support.

Can’t wait to be back healthy

Cam

Glad to hear that she's expected to make a full recovery. Sorry to miss watching her race, but it's great to see athletes taking better care of their brains.

Per Alan Millway on Neethling's podcast she hit the landing body-first... Sad

doesn't apply to vital too much as it's ebike XC, but a World Series race was just fully canceled. "Not possible to ensure successful execution of event." - wonder what that really means? is there really an interest in e-xc?

-----------------------------------------------

Charade/Clermont-Ferrand Round canceled

Monaco (P.ty), Thursday 31 August 2023 - The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and WES Management regret to announce that the round of the 2023 UCI E-MTB Cross-country World Cup which was scheduled to take place in Charade/Clermont-Ferrand (France) on 30 September and 1st October, has been canceled.

Despite the best efforts of the local promoter and WES, it was not possible to ensure the successful execution of this event this year. However, it is envisaged to return to Charade/Clermont Ferrand with a round of the UCI E-MTB Cross-country World Cup in the future.

The next round of the 2023 UCI E-MTB Cross-country World Cup will take place in Bielstein, Germany, on 2 and 3 September.

I know a lot of people maintain they get just as good a work out on their ebikes, but to me E-MTB XC racing is just an exercise in futility.
