if you drop it to 30 riders you cant have protected riders IMO.
imagine this, your a young Aussie/Kiwi, you save up hard for 2 years to live the dream in a Ford Transit van and eating nothing but Service station food and drinking cheap Czech beer for 4 months of summer. Your bike has cracks in the bottom bracket junction, the tyres are bald, your derailleur is making some fucked up noises, but you picture that young Sam Hill, Nathan Rennie or Masters brothers and think "I can do that too"
suddenly, your chance of qualifying halves, you have gone from a slim chance, to mathematically nearly zero because some chodes in suits think it will make better TV.
2024 rolls around, no privateers to be seen (because whats the point)

and the eliot thing - i'm sure it's just typos b/c there are so many variations of spelling the name eliot/elliott/eliott, but Eliot Jackson has one L and one T. would be rad if he was announcing for disco!

"New horizons on the calendar and a return to the rice fields is on the minds of all."
It looks like a UCI World Cup return to Japan is finally going to happen (Fujimi? or Izu?).
"...whilst the goat takes one last swing at base then takes reigns at the helm with the publican."
I have a strong feeling "publican" means ESO, interesting if true, considering all the union talk recently.
When looking at the fact that Greg was in the Discovery promo video, combined with him distancing himself from the riders union, I think there a strong likelihood that he'll be involved with Discovery/ESO going forward.
I remember Martin Whiteley saying that UCI was in discussion with a resort from Japan to host a round in 2021-2022 or something like that but the pandemic came and everything was postponed. My guess is that there will be a round in Japan next season. Fingers crossed

The bike park in question is Fujimi Panorama. They invited Martin Whiteley several years ago to help them out so it could be there.
The last DHI World Cup in Japan was in Arai Mountain; maybe some of the old-timers here remember how wild it was.
Another possibility is Izu (2020 Olympic XCO course), as the track is already build and is definitely world-class.
It might also be possible that we use both tracks (distance is about 2 and half hours by car) where there will be XC and DH in a double-header weekend or, most probably, consecutive weekends.

Kathy is no longer the team manager from what I recall. Not sure if she's still somehow associated with the team.

now i get why greg rubs some riders the wrong way dispite being a legend and coming across as a genuine person.
looks like the rumors that he often looks for his own advantage might be true?

Dean Lucas recently had Loic and Finn on The Offtrack Experience and they were saying that since Greg is the rider rep to the UCI he and PomPom have to keep their names out of the union talk since as much as possible since it could further strain the relationship between riders and the UCI. It also seems like there is some added effort/work for Greg and PomPom who don't always filter out info in a timely manner do to race prep and other obligations. Loic and Finn didn't seem like they were throwing Greg under the bus at all, and they would probably all agree that the rep should be a recently retired or a rider who's focus has shifted, i.e., Neko.

@hogfly Thanks for the info. I was like, I haven't seen here in quite awhile in the videos. I guess a lot of change has beyond the riders in the Syndicate.
Minnaar is a good business man. He knows what he is talking about and has the right mindset to deliver if needed. And he would be my primary pick to ad him to the stuff if I would be ESO Discovery or some orgaser at the too level. What all of the dudes are looking for is fame and the money that goes with it. And Gred definitly knows how that works

It was weird, too, because she was on Downtime Podcast just like a year ago and I don't recall her mentioning any intent to stop traveling with the team or anything. Her Social Media is silent as well. I hope all is well with her.

watch tea and biscuits 2: Sam Hill part
paraphrased from the film
Interviewer: who was crying about this section?
SH: "Greg Minaar, he used to cry any time there was a tree root! The UCI will be up there at night chopping them out."
Is it just dh that's moving or is xc going as well? Will red bull still be covering xc
xc too. all things UCI mountain bike world cup
on that note, the new group indicated in their documentation that we weren't supposed to know about that "end of july" would reveal schedules for enduro and WC and "september" would reveal rule changes. so maybe we get news this weekend at snowshoe?

Ill be snooping around the pits at snowshoe and report back on any new findings or information. Part of me hopes there will be more North American rounds, a return to Australia, and other higher profile locations
Yeah if we could get more round, Aus and NZ in March, then a few week gap and then round Europe a bit then finish over in NA with a US and Canadian round.
Hardline too, and I could see them expanding it to other locations (although I think they'd need buy-in/permission from the Athertons?)
I bet Redbull owns that.. Even though it may have been an Atherton idea, Redbull most likely funded it. Redbull has people on staff who's job is to work with their athletes and make whatever idea they have a reality.
Hope Katie is gettting into a better headspace. I'm also really happy to see more and more riders willing to be open about their struggles whether emotional, mental, or physical. This sport is so full of people taking huge risks and competing on a razor's edge, so it's great to start creating a space where people can express their vulnerability and needs for self-care.
just posted this, asking riders what they think of discovery thing from snowshoe. if you don't have 8 mins, here's the answer "uh, we haven't heard anything yet."
Some interesting rumours from the aforementioned videos...
- More rider input, specifically for safety/track design, said Myriam & Loic
- Only six rounds, said Amaury
- Only top thirty qualify, said Brook
- More races, in North America/South America, said Chris Grice
- No comment from Wyn since he hasn't heard anything. Mark Wallace echoed this by noting no calendar is available for next year.
- Many saying they assume things will be similar for next year since they haven't heard anything yet. Hopeful but uncertain seemed to be the feeling of the day.
On the Discovery topic, is it possible that instead of this landing in Discovery Sports and that associated subscription it instead goes to GCN and GCN+? They're already doing free Youtube videos for EWS, but they have their own broadcast people for road cycling on their GCN+ app. Maybe it's not a big difference to some, but the GCN+ app isn't super expensive considering all of the road and cyclocross racing it offers. Might it be that we get some sort of combo where highlights are available on GMBN's Youtube and the race is broadcast on some new GMBN+?

Seriously though. Protest with your wallets. The community needs to let the racers know and feel that we’re with them.
