jeff notice the word 'coverage' when i talk about EWS Valberg, so photo and video recaps. EWS is impossible to watch live (i tried the live tracking site, funny thing, it doesn't work for me in beta Chrome, supposedly my browser is not new enough and i should install a newer one, like Chrome. It just sucks in Edge), just like rally. So you're destined to watch the highlights reel. DH is much better here. But i'd just prefer to be out riding and watch the highlights of either sport in the evening.

As for the bikes. XC bikes are made to pedal as best as they can, DH bikes are made to descend as best as they can. Enduro bikes must do both. Sure, it's a jack of all trades kinda stuff, but i think it's easier being a master of one than almost a master of a few things.

BTW, it was mentioned on Pinkbike a while ago, an unnamed major brand told the guys over there, that they sell 50 AM/enduro bikes to one downhill bike.

that's a 50 to 1 kook to badass ratio. i'm ok with that.

They call 'em fingers, but I've never seen 'em fing.

Don't worry, they'll tell you.

Ha too true

Anyone who has worked in bike shops knows the frequency of this.

I've endeavoured to never do so. apart from....erm...now

Latest rumour: Greg Minnaar leaves Syndicate, grows beard, has haircut and puts fake mole on face to compete on Masterchef Australia under the name Ashley. Doesn't do very well, so returns to the Syndicate to race in 2017

Dint do 5+ years at uni on what is commonly ranked as the 3rd hardest course to complete to avoid giving my profession for fear of "being that guy".
Its the ones who aren't and claim to be that are the real clowns- you fit boilers, you're not an engineer!

Aaaaaanyway, is Brosnans contract up? Giant were hard for him a few seasons ago and their DH team is a joke for how big a company they are, maybe they'll make an offer.

Does anybody know which riders are coming to the end of their contracts? im assuming the biggest player on the market will be Canyon? maybe a high profile man, woman and junior rider would be on their list if they want to make a splash like YT.

I hear you. Just bored at ye' ole' dayjob and took to some keyboard banging.

The whole argument of "which bike is more technologically advanced" is really a "my dad could beat up your dad argument". Hence my hedge when I say "all of them". Seriously, go walk the pits at a UCI WC XC race. Its absurd how some of those bikes are built, tubular tires, weight savings with no expense saved, every watt being accounted for. DH is just rad, damper technology that is years ahead of what we know about (sometimes), hell, even voodoo anti vibration stickers!

Sam Hill just won an enduro on an aluminum bike with an "outdated" Monarch. I'd argue that's still cool as hell, but no, it wasn't a technological marvel that allowed him to find the top step. It was the skill of the pilot.

We're all chasing fractions of a percent at this point with technology. Bike fit and suspension/tire/cockpit setup is going to matter more than xzy carbon hottness, this or that damper or similar in enduro (or even downhill). Its still a rider centric, not technology centric, sport, which is rad.

Put another way, no bike, in any discipline, is the Lancia Delta S4 - a product that is so far past the competition that it almost makes the rider a less important part of the equation. This, despite what the marketeers, athletes and press releases may imply...

Agree with all of it, it's just that it's fascinating that an enduro bike has to pedal realtivelly well to get to the top, be light enough, yet still hold up to the abuse that is thrown at it. It's the delicate balancing act that is so awesome to me (plus the fact that i'm riding sub-1600 g wheelsets with 28 spokes and haven't exploded them yet, that is just a complete WTF to me).

But yeah, it's still the rider that's the key, riding my old Meta 5.5 wasn't much slower, if at all, compared to my current Reign.

Awesome times!

Have it from a very reliable source that Vergier is moving to the syndicate.

Basically ran into Kathy Sessler at world champs and laid down some smooth lines and managed to get her frisky enough to drop that bomb.

Nice shootin', Tex! Did you get her to whimper Luca Shaw's name while you were havin' at it?

I dont about Vergier on Santa Cruz, it has some merit i guess. However i heard from afew different people over hear that Brosnan has been in talks with the Syndicate.

Talking about Aussie riders, Prochyra who made his World cup debut this year has secured a 2yr deal with Swatch.

Good to see a non bike industry company supporting up and coming riders. I wonder how he caught Swatch's eye since his name doesn't pop up when you think of Aussie riders.

good stuff none the less

Cube picked up German junior Max Hartenstern.
I'ld really like to know what he can do with a full factory support. He's been dominating all junior classes at the IXS European and German cups and was 8th at his first world cup in Leogang with a crash.
And he's only been supported by a small local bike shop so far.
Riding with Greg Williamson and Matt Walker will have a big impact as well, I think right now the level is so high, it's really hard for a up and coming rider to ride that fast on your own, you need someone to show you it's possible.

I can ride my bike with no handlebar!

not a 2017 development but an interesting sorta confirmation of rumors.

Troy and Luca Shaw on Syndicate with Greg would be a pretty sweet. I have a feeling with Canyon's new DH bike and Fabian running the racing team they will be looking to make a big splash with a top 10 rider.

Interesting seeing as how TLD is letting go of a lot of their bike employees.

Well in that vein, Curtis Keene, Hanna Barnes and Jared Graves are either going (back) to Yeti, or Ritchie and Kelly are also going to Specialized. They also all hang out together.
