Stravapocalypse87 Added a comment about feature TESTED: Race Face Era Carbon Wheels
12/9/2024 3:10pm I've been running the ERA's for about half a year now and have been thoroughly impressed. Ride quality is very impressive and the hubs have been solid so far. Did manage to blow up a front wheel up at Sunpeaks but that was entirely my fault. The impact, which would have literally caved in any alloy rim and sent me facefirst into a rock garden, only managed to put a small crack into the ERA's which I was able to ride down to the village on. Although breaking a wheel is definitely not ideal, RF had a new wheel to...

12/5/2024 1:24pm Now that so many companies are making things that aren't bottles with mounts for bottle bosses, i.e. tools, tubes, pumps, bags, etc, all bikes, including ,DH bikes should have bosses somewhere, even if there isn't actually room for a full water bottle. Lots of bikes have a second set on the underside of the top tube these days even though usually you can't put a bottle there (bonus for XL frames when sometimes you can). Anybody whose broken something in the top third of the Garbo zone without spares knows the pain...

12/3/2024 1:13pm So it's not blowing the seal, it's breaking the piston/retention part. Also the mineral oil vs. DOT question is precisely why dot is better than mineral oil. And the problems are because it is all "mineral" oil while quite possibly being about as different as DOT 5.1 is vs. DOT 5. Maybe selling it as "mineral oil 42xyz" would clear up these issues and would prevent some compatibility issues. You can put mineral engine oil in your car but if it was designed for 0W40 and you put 20W75 in it, the engine won't be happy. Even though it got...

12/3/2024 1:12pm Can second this, I ran multiple sets of overpressurized codes for a couple of seasons and never had an issue with burst diaphrams but have seen countless shimano/magura/etc with that issue. Blew my buddies mind when I bled/over pressured his trashed Code's. Fortunately don't have to deal with that now that I'm on Hope lol.

12/3/2024 1:06pm That's good intel. Being a long time SRAM user those are two things I have a habit of doing. Over pressurize the crap out of the system to get that crisp bite point and resetting pistons without opening the system before bleeds. Never had issues across their entire MTB range. Turns out not all brake systems are that forgiving.

11/30/2024 6:43pm I'm ready to be downvoted, but here's a hot take - I think most of the $1500+ steel HT frames from "boutique" builders are marketing BS. Titanium is hard to weld correctly, so I'll cut some slack for TI stuff. Al needs to be heat treated. But steel? Your local car shop/welder can penetrate weld. No amount of "custom geo" "bespoke" "compliance" "insert new hot word here" is going to make some welded steel tubes that was aligned on a jig be worth that amount of money. Reynold steel tubes cost 30-40 for a downtube/toptube section.Full suspension alignment is a...

11/29/2024 4:24pm Dura Ace R9200 12 speed was launched August 2021, XTR M9100 12 speed was launched 3 years prior in May 2018. Sram Eagle was launched in March 2016, Sram Red (D1?) 12 speed was launched 3 years later in February 2019. 12 speed was always developed for mountain bike first. wide range cassette bigger than 11-36 were for mountain bike first with Sram XX1 10-42 in october 2012 and 2015 for Shimano M8000 11-42 cassette and another 12-15 month for XT M8000 11-46 cassette. And no road is not 90% of Shimano Sales, I would say 50% is road, 30%...

11/26/2024 10:56am Seems odd that SRAM would drop a non-Transmission/UDH style DH groupset. Unless this is some sort of old proto they made a while back?

11/26/2024 10:52am Looks like a XO1 AXS derailleur with SRAM XO1 7 speed cage. You can mess with the limit screws to make it work with that mini block cassette.

Stravapocalypse87 Added a comment about feature Editor Dream Build - Jonny’s Scott Ransom
11/26/2024 2:36pm I think Scott did a lot of things right on this bike. I feel like they've learned a lesson with the proprietary tech and making almost everything readily replaceable on this Ransom would make me a confident owner. Lots of little details like the multitool and the sag indicator are quite neat as well. As a tech, the headset routing does pain me a bit but for the average rider, it shouldn't be a make or break at this price point. You just have to accept you may pay more in service down the line in return for the sleek...
