6/14/2026 8:55pm The unfortunate part is the redesign or revision will take a decade to come out as usual.

6/14/2026 8:54pm The conventional wisdom about Shimano used to be that they moved slowly with product development but (with a few exceptions) released stuff that just worked. But the dual-spring clutchless derailleurs don't seem like they fall into that category of "just works." (Caveat: I have not ridden one myself. I'm basing this on other people's reviews.) Will be very interesting to see if Shimano sticks to their guns on this design, or if they backtrack in a year or two.

6/13/2026 4:09pm Yea, that's true, but the M8220 XT lever doesn't, and I'm pretty sure otherwise they are identical to the M9220. Could run that with the new mineral oil and essentially have the new set up.

6/13/2026 1:44pm Excuse my French, but could we fucking please stop calling bikes "analog", "acoustic", or -the worst I've heard- "bio"? Bikes are bikes. Ebikes are something else. Now get off my fucking lawn you punks!

6/12/2026 5:28pm The etiquette piece might be my single biggest grievance from the ebike crowd. I'm a big guy and climbing is not my strength, so I have PLENTY of experience with being passed on the uptrails by both regular and ebike riders. The ebike riders are exponentially worse at saying excuse me, on your left, or simply making some noise to let you know they're behind you. I've even seen groups of ebike riders talking and laughing about how fast they're cruising past other riders at the top of the climb. These aren't new riders. At the end of the day...

6/10/2026 7:19am Yesterday I spoke with a guy who rode a couple of EDRs and would always ride xtr mech since forever but he was on a sram. He said not only the chain slap was unbearable on the new di2 xtr but he would also drop chains pretty much daily, to the extend the top of his crank which cought the chain became all scratched... The shifting was absolutely amazing but the reliability is horrible and he also noticed shimano sponsored enduro pros would run full dh chain tensioners or STFUs just to keep the chain on, which is mindboggling how...

5/31/2026 5:32pm I think the purpose of that little tab is to be a mini chain guide for the upper pulley in big chain slap moments. Pull the cage forward by hand and imagine the chain slapping and flopping around. Seems like it'd be easy for the chain to jump off the upper pulley if that tab wasn't there. I just checked a couple of X01 derailleurs in the old parts bin because the clutches started to wear out, and you can clearly see that the chain has hit that tab.
