TEAMROBOT Liked a forum topic 2.3mm rotors on Shimano brakes?

Has anyone tried running 2.3mm rotors on Shimano brakes, or on any other brake system designed for 1.8mm rotors? I'm sure this is the worst idea ever, and I'm sure there's a very good reason why this won't work, but I've got tons of clearance on my pads (more than .5mm) and the problem I'm trying to solve is the insanely long lever throw on my Zee brakes. I've tried hyperextending the pistons during a bleed to shorten the lever throw, but that always seemed like a PITA and an imprecise way to move the lever feel. It was really...

Something everyone has to realize about UBM and UDH is that SRAM is in the business of selling OEM to massive bike companies. Anything SRAM can do to make the process faster and cheaper/better for the OEMs is seen as a win. In the case of Transmission/wireless drivetrains, that is a WIN for OEMs. Say they can shave -5-10 minutes a bike not having to deal with cables, setting stops, tension, etc. They can install a Transmission drivetrain in <5mins, vs. say 10-12min for a cable-actuated version. Now, multiply that times 20,000 MTB builds and you have million(s) of dollars...

The Sidekick uses a 45T ratchet ring that translates to an 8 degree "traditional" engagement. The degrees on the pusher are reflective of just the pusher movement itself. So, if we are talking the total possible degrees: the 12 degree Pusher setting would be 12-20 degrees, the 15 degree Pusher setting would be 15-23 degrees and the 18 degree pusher setting would be 18-26 degrees. It's important to remember that those are the numbers on paper, but in actual use there are constant suspension inputs, freewheeling that is resetting the pusher back to zero, and a few other intricacies. We...

The new DH16 would be interesting to test if it's rolling resistance is lower so it should be little faster. I'm not sure how often I end up riding in wet or muddy conditions downhill as I understood it's more meant for dry conditions. I've used in 3 years DH34/DH34 + DH34/DH34 and last season DH22/DH34 combos. The rear DH34...

Has anyone ridden the new Michelin DH16? Sounds like the updated casing is a bit lighter on the new DH tires.

The bearing you are looking for is a dual row angular contact ball bearing, Kugellager express has it. It's a 3802. Enduro also has them. Notice the numbers you are comparing are static vs. dynamic loading which is not the same. As for bushings, they are technically ideal for pivots, but require additional sealing (could be used for bearings to prolong the life as well, based on how often it is implemented it's science fiction for the bike industry...), a hardened axle to slide in the bearings, but the problem is they need clearance to operate and thus you will...

Sorry my typo! I corrected to my post that the numbers were static load. I'm not saying that it matters but I find it little interesting that Endurobearings exceeds most normal bearings static load rating like it's 4x what FAG has. I wonder what makes the difference? Kugellager Endurobearings FAG 3802-B-2RSR-TVH-HLC

Cleaning pistons is good general maintenance and makes a difference in the seal longevity and helps clear up the bores of any material that might lead to corrosion build up, but I'd just go ahead and order one of the aftermarket rebuild kits on Amazon/Ali and swap the pistons and seals out. Then you'll be well able to clean the piston pockets, ensuring less likelihood of corrosion build up. Those kits work well enough and are cost effective, so if you're going to disassemble a caliper you may as well rebuild it with fresh seals and pistons. Air compressor works...

I found that info on NSMB's article here: https://nsmb.com/articles/continental-kryptotal-tires/ " If I were to draw parallels to what majority of the mountain bikers are used to, the Soft compound is similar to Maxxis MaxxTerra and Super Soft is much like MaxxGrip. I've been told by the development team that the knobs are at 40/42a durometer on the Super Soft and that's a wonderful thing for the North Shore Survival toolkit!" I did some durometer testing and forgot to share the results here but your guess is pretty bang on! I found my Rekon Maxterra reading to be pretty wild. The...

Excellent topic once again! My Mondraker uses 10pcs 15x24x7 3802 size bearings. The upper and lower linkages seem to eat bearings even though I've made a small additional mudcover. The original bearings can be found priced around 55 - 130 euros as a set but I'm not sure what's the quality. I would like to buy and test some "premium"...

Enduro MAXX (their term for full complement) bearings are not in the same league quality wise as NSK, SKF, FAG or even NTN and Koyo (IME). They are just an industrial bearing manufacturer that are not bicycle specific. However they do cater (advertise) towards bicycle bearing sizes more than the other big brands. I have been running "Rulla bearings" in pivot points and BB's for a few years without issue. I don't know where/what manufacturer they use for their bearings and I live in a part of Australia with an average annual rainfall of 457mm, average annual low temperature 9.4°C...

The warranty period is just there to let you know that theyre standing behind the product. You could concievably get much longer out of them. With the frequency that people actually change out frame bearings (which is virtually never, or is only when there is a significant issue), if I saw these on a used bike, Id feel much more comfortable forking over my money. Just thought they were interesting, I was surprised when I hadnt seen anything about Enduro bearings after Cane Creek came out with their BB with the same tech

I have just done some experimenting on my Mondraker Summum (which has like 200% Anti-Squat) with a „freecoaster gear“. Replaced two cogs with some spacers on the cassette so you have a gear where the chain moving around has zero effect on the chainring. I actually noticed a massive difference in my feet and legs, you could really feel how much calmer you can stand and the rear end working much more freely/a lot less fatiguing.

Running a bigger rotor achieves less finger force needed at the lever. But keep in mind that if you never get a 220mm rotor up to temperature, a 200mm rotor can have more power as it heats up faster. I’ve ran: Intend massive 223 Galfer Wave 223 Sram centerline 220 Sram HS2 220 Hope floating 220 TRP R1 223 Magura MDR-P 220 Out of all these I currently run the hopes. They’re thin at 1.8mm but due to the riveted design they’re the quietest rotors I’ve ever had. By quietest I meant it in the sense that they don’t ”ring”...

Absolutely an informative thread. It took me two days to read it all. I'm running Shimano Saint brakes with Shimano XT SM RT-86 203mm discs. My recipe for success has been that I change a new set of Shimano H03C metal disc brake pads every spring at the start of the season. My observation is that changing the pads is...

The bike industry is full of things that scream poor design and manufacturing. It's far from a SRAM specific problem.
