I think the rear triangle was carbon, front triangle was still the lug and tube construction they use on current bikes. Was a fully silver bike also with no branding, pretty sure it had been painted up and it looked very sleek. It will be interesting to see why they've changed the platform if it makes it to production.

If any here want to see what the Honda RN01s first gearbox iteration was, check European Patent Application EP 1 366 978 A1, it's date of filing was 20-03-2003. It was described as 'Continuously Variable Transmission For Bicycles'. And that, it certainly was / could be. It was an incredible thing, using 4 (?) link arms and multiple pivot / center points, the repositioning of those creating various 'strokes' of said links, and arcs, thence into rotation. Why do it on a bicycle? Well, for real world testing of a (relatively) high torque load at what are very low revs...

Did I miss any discussion about Williams Racing Products/Trinity and their homage to the Honda RN-01 drivetrain?

While other brands are trying to say people who buy their 7k+ bikes want headset routing because they have no idea how to innovate, Marin slaps out an absolute banger, some parts specs aside, that anyone can afford and have a whole season of riding trips for less than the cost of the others. Well done Marin.

The two bikes, while somewhat similar in purpose and travel, are quite different bikes in terms of customer base. Also, Transition's compared to Santa Cruz's, Yeti's, and Pivot's are quote good value, and have been for quite some time, but also cater to a different trail user in general who have a difference sense of value outside of purchase price. Generally, I imagine Yeti customers or potential Yeti customers are shopping high end Santa Cruz's and Pivot's against Yeti, not Transition vs Yeti. The only issue I have with your argument, is that modern carbon mountain bikes, even Transition's, are...

Looks like OneUp is teasing a new dropper on their Facebook?! I'm hoping for an even lower stack height so I can finally run full 180 on my Nomad :D

I'm pretty sure normal people are supposed to buy last year's yeti for 30% off and feel like they got a deal. Glad to see the market rebound. New bike prices like everything are still quite a bit higher than pre covid, but the clearance and used market has returned to pretty reasonable levels.

The same Sight A1 was, if I'm not mistaken, 4500 € MSRP in 2020. Exact same spec except for an RC3 shock instead of the Ultimate and e.13 rims instead of Stan's Flows.

Yeah I had a plastic cup SRAM one on my old Reign and didn't have any issues with it. GFRP is plenty tough if done right and plastic cups would be better for slightly out of tolerance BBs and less likely to creak than an ali one. I'd still 1000% rather a BSA threaded BB though!

I think Spomer's right here, there are a million products that people pay lots of money for that have absolutely no "performance" advantage over their cheaper siblings. If you've ever purchased a t-shirt from a favorite band, local business, or any brand, you can literally look at the tag and buy an identical blank shirt of the same size, material, thread count, color, etc from the manufacturer for half or a third of the price. You buy the shirt for the brand name and/or graphic on the front. That's the whole point. I would never, ever, ever spend extra money...

tldr - i think we're mostly on the same page here... your last two sentences are the whole point i've been trying to make (i wasn't on debate team, so my car comparisons obvs sucked). if yeti can charge this much and have people buy them, that's the decision of yeti and the buyer, not ours. those financial decisions should NOT impact the review portion of how well the bike handles the trail, regardless of special technology/features that do or do not justify the price. we pointed out the exorbitant frame cost, the short-comings of the build in relation to...

I think for blasting through chatter the difference between the two is negligible. The megatower may have a slight edge with more travel and a higher stack which fit me slightly better. The SB160 seemed to handle hard compressions a little better. As for flowly bikepark jump trails I think the SB160 also has an edge being able to generate speed a little better. I had zero issues with frame stiffness and felt like I could push as hard as I wanted into anything.
