I’m the kind of rider that goes to the bikepark with 3 different rise handlebars, 4 stem lengths and 3 shocks and only rides the same two trails all day, a/b testing. Handelbar rise AND stem length/rise and spacer stack are all related. “rad” might be a good way to approach things, but actually going out and collecting data is way, way radder, and more fun, IMO. From what i see at races and bikeparks it looks like 80% of people have handlebars that are too wide and too low, combined with the most anemic stumpy stems. Go test for...

Needs a Bullet Brothers chain "tensioner" bar & spring. Oh...and a couple tubes when those tires go flat in the parking lot. Love how the 26" wheels make my brain think a set of 175mm cranks are 180's.

Those calipers are just Amazon specials. They found their way into the kit for a specific test day and have proved to be super useful so that's where they live now.

I have the same blue plastic calipers! Have had them for ages and never bothered replacing them. Not quite accurate enough to measure a 27.2mm vs. 27.0mm seatpost but good enough for anything else.

Really nice travel kit! I struggle with buying dedicated Knippex pliers for my travel kit, since I don't go on the road very often. But those things are as good as gold, I doubt there are very many quality tools that are as versatile. I'm really impressed with the Wolftooth chain pliers, I had to get a second set for on the bike. I love the plastic vernier calipers for a travel kit, mind if I ask where you got them?

Thanks for bringing up the spare parts! Really good travel kit you got there. Like you, I always have a tupperware container with bolts, der hanger, cables, brake fluid, etc., along with a semi-worn chain and a couple of spokes. I haven't packed a shifter and derailleur, but that would definitely save the day on a trip!

I Put this together a few years ago trying to save some weight when flying. I bring a few parts as well in a separate bag (tire, rotor, der) but this is the bulk and I haven't felt the need for much more. I end up bringing this roll most of the time on day trips now too instead of a full box.

Those look a lot like fox compression valves on that vs proto shock. Obviously it's still in testing phase, and if he is using the dhx2 valves, it's out of convenience in order to dial in the architecture. Either way, I'm really interested in seeing what exactly Steve is trying to better/improve with his rear shock. I'm stoked to try that thing out. I had a vorsprung tractive tuned super deluxe ultimate coil (that's a mouthful) on my v1 megatower that I just recently replaced with an 11/6. The 11/6 is better... by a very slim margin. Let's call it...

Rear centre length is a huge proponent to front end grip that gets overlooked. If the CS is long enough, it literally drives the front wheel into the ground almost. My current bike has a 463mm CS, I could put my stem on backwards and still have grip lol. Sure I cant manual now, put my bike on a rack, bunnyhop or make any tight corners, but at least I got grip!

Stoked on this thread - I've been messing around with the MI kit for a few years with mostly good results, though I think they could provide a bit more guidance as the learning curve is a bit steep. Anyone try the BrakeAce kit yet? I have a set but haven't had time to play with it yet, need to track down an Android phone because they don't have an iOS app yet.

I'm wondering if you have a long enough seatpost for your hardtail, or if your seatpost is so short you can't get full extension. Also, if you don't have a fancy modern dropper seatpost, you'll need to stop at the bottom of climbs to put your seatpost up and stop at the start of descents to put your seatpost down...

I sit as much as the trail will allow to conserve energy. You may want to look at your saddle height. I have found that I do better on the trail with a saddle slightly lower than the optimized "roadie" height. Unless I'm on pavement or something of similar smoothness, I like to keep my dropper slightly shorter than full extension. It makes getting out of the saddle easier and it also gives me more room to work with if I don't have time to drop the post entirely.

I had a tooth break off the big cog on an XX1 Eagle cassette and it was replaced under warranty. Warranty is certainly worth a try.

That many issues make we wonder if the chain is right length and if the RD is setup correctly. I have had X01, GX, XT, SLX and only issues are either due damage to a crash or improper setup or something being loose.

10 gram diff between xc and enduro/dh ?? seems a bit wierd... After trying several inserts, weight can be a good indication as too how an isert works. From my experience, Cushcore,Technomouse evo,Vitorria (200gr+) ... will protect the rim and tire more and offer better trail dampening than Panzer,Tubolight (100gr+-)...
