They are the super fit athletes racing these in the ews so can theoretically deal with the trade off in harshness but also they have suspension tuners available if there is an issue they would like addressed as well.

I've had my Spire for around two weeks now and have been very impressed with it. It's interesting that you & other sites have said the rear suspension is harsh - that's just about the last word I would use to describe it. That super deluxe shock must be doing the bike dirty, I got the build with an X2 shock. I'll offer a counter argument for the 30 tooth chainring - I think it's a perfect spec choice for the sort of riding a lot of people will be doing on this bike, at least in the PNW where...

You need the link or bottom bracket will drop too much and the head angle will go too slack.

I'm 6'1" on the large frame and Mx works well for the TR with a WRP mullet link

$1400 ? Geez. No wonder kids can't ride dirt jumps. What ever happened to the full rigid Eastern DJ for $350?

This is true, but I would change one word. For me, it is “Wonderful setup, absolutely no modulation.” I got used to it fast, and I’m not saying it is right, but it is what I prefer.

Nice review, any chance you could share pictures of the dents on the downtube? Or at least the size and location of the dents? Smaller dings wouldn't surprise me from the terrain you were testing but most people considering this bike want something more durable than the carbon evo or enduro. I don't ride a ton of trails with large loose rocks but I don't want to have to worry about it

Get the frame only and the mullet link, then spec with a 170mm 650b fork and voila.

Deore and Marzzcchi on alloy frame was always sold out on the Nukeproof reactor builds, and the most sensible spec for an entry level build,

There are a variety of reasons a PM may go with the red S over the blue S, reasons that are beyond exploring in this landscape. The most practical reason, and 100% speculative here, would be the more limited availability of Deore. I may be very much wrong, but you asked, and that is my best *guess* I am a massive fan of Deore and would love to see it on many more bikes. The price is excellent and the performance is stellar. A Deore/Maz alloy EVO would be the cat's meow from a consumer perspective.

who in their right mind would compare the GX to the Deore? also I was asking Vital why it was spec'd with NX and not Deore so we would not be guessing then.

You consider factory suspension and GX inferior to Deore and Marzocchi? If you're talking about the base build, the 36 Rhythm is identical to the Z1 it just says fox on it. And while I dislike the higher end Shimano 12s I'd still take Deore over NX, but I'm guessing that choice was made due to availability. Shimano parts are way out and these bikes are actually in stock now
