honestly looking at some of the bloated product lines I agree. as an amateur consumer, I would suggest that what really is needed is 3 mtb frames, and 2 ebike frames max. an XC and downcountry model - like a flex stay 29er, pedalling prioritised a trail/all mountain model - regular suspension, maybe option of 29 or MX via flip chip. big travel bike - maybe but not necessarly high pivot, MX wheel, descent focussed suspension, could be a DH bike, park bike, enduro bike based on fork and drivetrain spec. and then 2 ebike front triangles that would work...

To your point, I think the cannibalism is worse than that, because instead of wanting multiple pedal bikes for different sorts of pedal days with granular differences between each model, one ebike is pretty much fine for everything. In the past, as a MTB pedaler, I would have loved to have at least three mountain bikes: a long travel enduro bike, a shorter travel trail bike, and maybe a hardtail or XC bike. Maybe more. Why would they make the rear specific tire flimsier? I have never heard this and seem like it wouldn't make sense for a rear. When I mounted up my DH casing versions they felt about the same.

That's also because Codes were god awful and the sram riders were so happy to get on an actual brake. I recently felt some older codes on some bikes I was dealing with and they were shockingly worse than I remembered. Say what you will about Shimano brakes, but they've been consistently good for a while.

The German market isn't reflective of North America; and possibly other core MTB markets like Australia and New Zealand, however small they might be. The amount and quality of riding in North America, for example, fosters a completely different riding culture. That's good. I have said it before, but the phantom was a bike so good i bought it twice (with v1 spur in between). And now the frames still available were cheaper than EPing them. They better fix seatpost insertion. Otherwise, any other tweaks would just be icing on the cake.
