I just got back from a week long trip to whistler where due to some family issues (sick pet) and friends cancelling last minute, I was mostly riding alone. Charlie, I’m reading this back to myself and I want to sound curious and not condescending; ala Paul at Mars Hill. But I don’t know if my wording reflects that, please read my words generously in light of the curiosity I’m experiencing. ………. I too think there are levers involved! All the usual suspension design metrics will have to be looked at when the wheel and brake are moved rearward 30-50mm. Though my position is that braking needs are nearly exclusively related to the need to convert accrued KE into heat in the time appropriate for the application...

I know this isn't the point of your comment, but if you haven't tried it, you might find it easier to keep a 29" front wheel straight than a 27.5" wheel, due to the gyroscopic stability and better roll over. For example, the reason I left my hardtail 27.5 is because it doesn't like to stay straight so it gives a different experience of picking lines compared to my "plow" 29er bike.

Had a shower thought today: Us “normal” sized folks (size M and L) have fetishized the 27.5 front wheel for being more nimble and playful, so why are so many tall riders so stoked about 32? Wouldn’t a giant human on a 29er be in the total sweet spot of it feeling nimble like a full 27.5 bike feels to us but also with the better rollover of a 29? Am I just in the Vital/PB bubble of liking the handling of full 27.5?

Il fight you all day on stack height not being proportional , but it’s getting better and it’s fixable with the new crop of 80mm plus bars. Big wheels dont help...

Fox, Bell, Giro and probably some others are all under the same parent company now. So makes sense. And like you say they were already in Bell helmets. So an easy relationship to keep going

I am not one to dis someone but that guy is sooooo annoying announcing DH. He seems perfect for the pits and maybe in corral post race but commentating he is super in accurate with what he is saying - ____ ALMOST OUT THE FRONT DOOR every 3rd rider. The nonsense that dribbles out of him is just an embarrassment. It's gotta be crazy hard but they need to replace him. Rewatching all the races from 2025 and if my wife is the room I have to put headphones so she doesnt have listen to him!
