It's a great point. You could start with, "Could WC racing be safer, and what would that look like?" Some bluesky ideas would be ridiculous and impractical, like taping people head to tow in bubble wrap, but some other ideas might be easy to apply and have no real downside. Safer B-zones that are cleared of unnecessary objects is a simple solution that's tough to argue with.

Great point. I think I tend to have the limited view of 'downhill racing is dangerous, it's part of the sport.' But danger due to gnarly terrain vs. danger due to high speeds are two separate things. And I would way rather tomahawk through a techy rock garden than lawn dart at 35mph on the motorway at Leogang. There is also the whole can of worms when it comes to safety that is the 'b zone', tree pads, catch nets, etc. There is definitely room for improvement across the board to make racing safer at World Cups.

As Primoz says: higher pressure requires more rebound damping. The difference between the rebound settings in the fox and pivot manuals are like 2 clics off, you’re going to go do bracket testing anyways, I wouldn’t worry too much about being one or two clicks off either way at the start…

The podcast rocks as always. One thought about tracks and safety. Pretty much all of motorsports recognizes that track layout MUST be done in a manner to limit speed to ensure safety. Racers in any sport will push the limits, because that's what makes them racers. It's up to the organizers to built safe tracks (and in motor sport limit power, aero, etc). Building more technical sections lowers speeds even if it doesn't separate times, this lowers the likelihood and severity of injuries.

A night stage could be a cool idea, unfortunately nothing over the last couple of years makes me think WB/ Disco. cares about or understands mountain biking enough to pull it off well.

A dusk/night stage?? Really.... I guess they really are grasping at straws to breath some life/interest back into enduro. There has got to be an advantage dropping in mid-pack on the final stage when it's a touch brighter out compared to the last 10 riders at sunset, no?

Proper enforcement will be impossible, so the authorities are eventually going to make it simple - no wheeled vehicles on mixed use trails at all anywhere near urban areas or in popular outdoor locations, regardless how powered. Slippery slope? We'll see.

One of the guys in the pic below threatened to shoot a cyclist few weeks back. You guys wanted Pandora's Box opened. I grew up gaining permission from other land owners to ride with their kids on bicycles then motos. Anywhere we took a bike, a moto poached & did not care if we got kicked out. Anywhere we were permitted to ride 2 wheels (usually just swapping out at each others property if we each had a bike), motos would poach & not care. E-bikes are just the bastard child of both categories. Making them dead silent thanks to...

You might be right about all of this, and I love the objective evidence to support your idea. I want to be very clear, just because I'm skeptical of the solution being the only solution doesn't mean I am somehow skeptical of improving suspension performance. My entire set of questioning is based around seeing a trend toward something (USD) and asking "why". I want to hear what trade-offs we are really making, and why we've stuck with RSU single crowns for so long if USD is plainly better. Maybe its just cost and weight, which is what it sounds like...

I rode the push and the intend. Push: The spring was the right one for me. I honestly didn’t find anything special about it. It worked like my 38 at the same travel. No less friction, no less damping or flex. But a lot heavier. The intend. I did feel the nice off the top and low friction difference, But the damper was not very supportive and the adjustments didn’t help. It also felt more flexy than the 38. So as a customer, more weight, more cost, or more flex. Beside the lubrication advantage, i wouldn’t spend the money or...

There seems to be very little real world experience on the Push out there, pretty much everything I come across is marketing, so an honest and unbiased opinion on it’s performance would be great, especially compared to a Zeb and 36

Two things that have kept me from jumping on an Intend or Push. - Sounds silly to some, but a big deal for others. Fenders. Buggers me why, with all the innovative capabilities available, why Intend hasn't bothered addressing this. - Reviews. Push's transparency and attitude has been fantastic leading up to the release of the Nine One, but what's the deal with not having a review to accompany the product? I thought for sure Vital would have been given an opportunity to run this. I'm apprehensive because of this. For me as it is now, Push is on the...

After having gone back and forth a few times now between the Intend and PUSH forks, I feel the ability to tune the flex (torsional and fore/aft) is a big benefit of the inverted design. Historically this has been a weak point, with the single crown Shiver being slightly terrifying at times with the ability of the front wheel to wander aimlessly in rock gardens. This is no longer the case (at least with the Intend and PUSH forks), with the amount of flex being beneficial. Similar to what Reece is talking about in regards to the Dorado here: It...

Random observation: Niko is a bit of a low talker. I think his mic needs to be turned up on both the race streams and on the podcast. I often feel like I'm straining to hear what he's saying, especially compared to Shouty McLaughin on the race broadcasts. Strangely enough I watched a bit of the last podcast on YouTube and the levels seemed better there compared to when I download it on Itunes. It also could be because I'm an old man and my ears are wrecked.

On a more serious note; Not sure if this is the place, but I'm getting a little concerned over rider safety (also posted in the Leogang thread). I'm a big fan of the LCQ, I think it's brought a lot of excitement to the weekend. BUT when it's brought in in conjuncture with a concerted effort to speed up tracks (correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems lots of corners are either being removed or sped up). I think the execs ( I believe this also was a thing in the RB days) think high speeds and big jumps...
