Curious what y'all know about the new Specialized tires with tire dampening technology. Is that like a mud conditions tire for wet terrain? Or is it a dry tire, but it dampens the dirt so it becomes wet and tacky?

That's normal for XD and XDr. Hope does the same thing. been like that for a few years. XDr 12 speed uses 11-speed spacing between gears so it needed a bit more room - just shy of 2mm as it would happen. I am assuming 13 speed comes about by SRAM using a narrower-than-11-speed spacing on the XDr driver. Certainly, it's possible that if/when SRAM releases mountain 13, they need to go on XDr to get every little bit of room they can.

Well, here’s one thing I can already say that is very positive about Padmelon. I placed my order yesterday but was hemming and hawing about whether to order for my DH bike or enduro bike. I decided enduro and quickly ordered as I was late getting out the door. Apparently I had mistakenly added the mount for my DH bike instead of my enduro bike but had ordered the correct damper. The Padmelon team caught it, sent me an email and told me they would hold the order until I confirmed. This saved me a lot of time and money and...

Sram goes to 13 on the gravel. If you had a XDR freehub, and a UDH frame, would this work on a MTB? - combine the new mech and cassette with existing transmission chain and crank, and any AXS shifter of your choice? https://singletrackworld.com/gritcx/2024/08/sram-goes-1x13-sram-red-xpl…

I haven't listened to the podcast yet, but some shop guys (WAO dealer) was saying something about having to re-tool the molds because they were having issues. I know a ton of people with Arrivals and haven't heard of anyone having issues with durability, but who knows. If they already have molds, I think they should just make a super limited run of frames (Arrival and DH) each year and keep them super exclusive. Be like, the Koenigsegg of bikes. Keep the build kits top end and charge a ton. I'm pretty sure they'd still sell out each year.

As electronic shifting becomes more ubiquitous, I'm curious what the VitalMTB community thinks of this technology. There are already a handful of threads around here with a debate between electric and mechanical shifting, so I'd rather ask in a specific thread. I'll hold my thoughts to later in this thread, but if anyone has any nuanced thoughts, I'd love to hear them.

A Propain employee was on Pinkbike saying they read the comments on their bike reviews and they got it wrong with headset cable routing as everyone didn't want it. So kudos to them for listening.

Ok, I've shit on Scott's internal shock designs on here forever and while if I'm being honest, the long travel bikes do look good, my minds not changing on the serviceability side of things and that their bikes are a consumer nightmare. Why are they pushing the internal shock thing so hard? Is it just to be different? Is it to have a selling point to some "needs the cool new thing" consumer out there because their bikes didn't have any real reason to buy them over another bike until they had a unique thing? That isn't actually that unique...

I don't think so. Here the 2 bikes side by side. Looks like the frame is more sloppy, there's an big angle between the top tube and seat tube and the upper looks longer than on the ransom

The issue is that Transmission "knowing" the time to shift is marketing BS. There is no hardware to allow the drivetrain to know when to shift. Transmission puts enough pressure on the chain to shift at a shift ramp/ gate, but not enough pressure to force a shift before the chain reaches ramp/gate. The drivetrain knows nothing. This is why it's highly unlikely there will ever be a cable activated Transmission derailleur. With direct cable shifting, there is no way to prevent forcing a shift. The key to the shifting performance of transmission is completely reliant on controlling the limited...
