12/4/2024 4:23am I host "The World's Okayest Mountain Bike Podcast" - it's pretty casual. Clean. We try to cover universal mtb topics when we can, but do have a lot of Midwest/Missouri content. When we do nerd out, it gets downright philosophical.

12/4/2024 4:19am maybe riders/teams chasing points to get a wildcard spot for world cup race? a win at crankworx is 60 points ( equivalent of 13th at at world cup) plus exposure from being broadcast on Red Bull.

12/2/2024 12:07pm One not mentioned I listen to is Front Lines MTB, a podcast solely focused on advocacy for trail access... or in their words: " A Podcast for the people that truly make mountain biking happen. Not the riders, racers, or product designers but the builders, advocates and the often forgotten Board Members of your local Mountain Bike Trail Association."

12/2/2024 12:02pm I wear ALL the protection I can when I ride park. Drives me crazy to see people not even wearing knee pads! Eventually they will, or they will not be riding (or at the very least as often as they could). Most older riders seem to wear more amour than younger riders, which I wonder if this is just more...

12/2/2024 4:41am Purely anecdotal, but as someone connected in both the climbing and mountain biking communities, in the past decade I personally know 4 people that have sustained spinal injuries while climbing (specifically, all from bouldering falls) but 0 people from mountain biking, despite being and hanging out with a bunch of bike part rats. Thing is, these are inherently risky hobbies. There are choices we can personally make to manage and limit those risks. But isn't the lack of guardrails what makes these things exciting, fulfilling? So much in our lives is safe, sterile, boring. Unless we seek out the things...

12/2/2024 4:38am I think the risks of a sever injury crashing are under estimated because most of the time you are fine. Little scrape here or something and move on. I have also seen people increasingly push their own boundaries into things they are not capable of doing with reasonable expectation of success. Basically if they don't crash it's luck not skill. I don't think warning's like you get on a pack of cig's is the answer. Shocking I think people need to take responsibility for their own level of risk tolerance. If you can't tell that the possibility of hitting a...

12/2/2024 4:16am Miss the Beyond the Tape talking tech episodes with Mick from WRP / Trinity and Lachie from SRAM (Aust - spinthatup on Insta). They were my all time favourite from any pod. Some great content!! LOVED those episodes as well. I go back and listen to them once in while when I run out of new stuff. I think Mick...

12/2/2024 4:11am Escape Collective (reincarnation of Cycling Tips which was bought and then burnt by Outside) has some mtb tech (mostly XC end but do touch on all the mtb tech other than DH maybe) in their Geek Warning weekly pod (out Fridays). Brad Copeland (most recently Kate Courtney’s mechanic) is there (almost) every episode to bring the mtb expertise. There might be some other podcasts from them for those interested in performance / physiology side of riding (some might be behind paywall - yearly subscription to EC). In the same vein, Silca’s marginal gains. Very much on the performance side of...

12/1/2024 6:19am The difference between the 2 is that Red Bull's events are private events, organised, produced & broadcast by them. They can invite whoever they want, no one can argue otherwise. WBD are organising World Cups on behalf of the UCI, the world governing body for competitive cycling events. They should be completely neutral & the only way to be free from bias/influence is to go off points for all teams. Personal opinion... I don't agree with handing control of the highest level of a sport to a TV production company to shape it how they want. I think I might've...

11/27/2024 4:20am I can't believe I some how skipped B Practice! The insights from Dak are so awesome! B Practice always delivers. CK is a fantastic guest and they work well together. Chris K, Alan Milway, Dak, Neko, Jack, Joe and Emilie, Elliot, to hear these people talk racing is the best content.

11/26/2024 3:47am And in my opinion, this is the problem. It's going to come down to personal opinion & relationships & that's not a fair way to run a sport.

11/26/2024 3:47am I fear it's going to be a shitstorm when it comes to WBD allocating those wildcard spots. To my mind it should be teams ranked 15-20 (surely that's the fairest way?), but I doubt it will be that simple. I can see WBD jumping through a lot of hoops to get their preferred teams/riders in.

11/25/2024 11:13am I believe yes So if you look at a rider you can see the points they have and see the current "value" that they for teams who need points to be in the top 15 UCI ranking.

11/25/2024 8:03am Reece to Norco would be cool. Just a thought. Also like him on Gamux is great but only if they get to compete at the World Cup. I just can't figure out how Intense, Gamux, Cube, Yeti, Gwin, Forbidden, Transition, and so on and so on are going to be able to race.
