1/17/2025 10:38am Aon slots in a 12th right now then the syndicate and frameworks in 14th Cami seems to be the only rider not announced that could impact how teams are ranked but with the teams she’s being rumoured to join it wouldn’t be enough. Yeti or pivot would still be out of the top 15. If she went with Scott then they would just move from 15th to closer to top 5

1/17/2025 9:23am That might move them into spot 15 on the team ranking and move Syndcate down and out of the top 15. Frameworks looks like it has also been moved out of the top 15.

1/17/2025 9:05am okay its 160mm... but for a mere 11000 euros https://www.nicolai-bicycles.com/Saturn16MGU-en for non electric powered enthusiasts, I'm interested if Atherton will be able to relatively quickly offer gearbox drivetrains on their other "A" models once they have sorted the mounting/bottom bracket area titanium lug.

1/17/2025 6:09am Echoing a lot of what Roryb has said. Current bike is a big heavy enduro bike with pinion gearbox and chain. The worst bit about it is the chain. Not noticed any increased drag over my conventionally driven bikes but being able to shift when stationary is actually a lot more useful that one would assume. Not crunching through through gears in the wet, gritty UK weather is also a bonus. Worst things about it are the no shifting under load and the gripshift, although I am used to the gripshift now. I can see how people would hop on...

1/17/2025 5:44am I agree with everything you wrote besides, "Belt reduces pedal kick". I have chain on my gearbox right now as I get things configured, but I don't see how I belt would change engament. The pinion does have 18 degress of float + what your hub has. I only have about a handful of days on my setup, gonna be hard to go back to standard drivetrain for a DH or park bike.

1/17/2025 5:41am People assume way too much about gearboxes and belts. Do not judge until your ride one. The reports you read about the drag or gripshift appear to be mostly from people who haven't ridden a gearbox bike and are just repeating what they heard. I have a gearbox bike with a belt drive, 155mm cranks. Full suspension with idler and tensioner. So lots of added "drag" beyond the gearbox itself. It's a big enduro bike that gets used for bike parks and shuttle laps too. I've beat it to hell and back for the last 3 years, broken frames, bent...

1/17/2025 4:57am Can we give up on the Gwin going anywhere but riding a Crestline this year? The guy literally owns the company (or a part of it at least) why would he be out there promoting other brands in the same market segment as his own company.

1/17/2025 4:55am Very, very fast young finn Kasper Hickman coming to Juniors next year with Cube Factory Racing. Won IXS races last year and many times being fastest of all - including beating Andi Kolb at Schladming. About Cube - isn't anyone thinking that isolated/floating brake mount from Cube proto would be next big thing after ochain and it's rivals? That completely isolates braking from suspension.

1/17/2025 4:53am Maybe not on the race run. But there were lots of broken mechs in practice and quali. Keeping the bike together during practice and maximizing that time (especially when its limited) is critical. Luca mentioned in the downtime podcast, how Fabien harps on the canyon crew for setting the bike down on the mech side because of this exact reason. Its all about removing variables.

1/17/2025 4:51am Yes, something else is happening. All of the following is a guess, but I think a pretty good one. Gates, a company already well known for Motorcycle belts and that according to google, has $830m in revenue but has only dabbled in cycling in the fringes for years is saying LFG. They likely want in on the E-bike market as mixed motors/drivetrains evolve and full power E-bikes ditch derailleurs because lets be honest, traditional drivetrains just don't hold up as well under an e-bike mashing, and they know DH is going to test the to the limits. This is going...

1/17/2025 4:44am Does anyone have insight on additional financial support for all these teams switching to belt drives? It doesn't seem like the low (and further decreasing) probability of winning a mere $100,000 would move the needle any meaningful amount. The most plausible reasons would be additional sponsorship funds from the belt associated brands or hoping to take advantage of the seemingly disproportionate publicity about the $100,000 prize. Additional sponsorship seems most likely, wondering if that's documented anywhere.

1/16/2025 12:23pm With Trek's announcement today, it looks like #2 "Gwin back to Trek" fantasies have come to an end. Perhaps being a part owner of another bike company was a deal breaker. All eyes on you Dan Atherton.

1/16/2025 12:21pm Would Career Numbers make more sense? Be kinda a shame to have a number rider combo for X years in a row and then due to having a bad season or injury someone "steels" your number for the next season. Tahnee's 57 gets snagged due to a bad season would be a bummer!

1/16/2025 10:40am I love the belt drive & Pinion innovation but.... How many UCI DH race runs were lost last year to a broken mech or broken chain? I can't recall a single one.
