Some of you are taking this out of context - I don't mean a frame should be $300 from the local car shop. I'm saying whatever expertise or warranty allowance involved, it's hard to justify a $1500+ usd steel hardtail frame, especially when there's FS frames AND TI hardtail frames for that price. My carshop example was a bad one I'll admit that. Actually this becomes a question in itself and I'd be happy if y'all can educate me - what makes a steel hardtail worth so much? I'm ready to be downvoted, but here's a hot take - I think most of the $1500+ steel HT frames from "boutique" builders are marketing BS. Titanium is hard to weld correctly, so I'll cut some slack for TI stuff. Al needs to be heat treated. But steel? Your local car shop/welder can penetrate weld. No amount of "custom geo" "bespoke" "compliance" "insert new hot word here" is going to make some welded steel tubes that was aligned on a jig be worth that amount of money. A lot of it is due to rider ability and preference and existing bike setup (i.e native tune of the shock). In my opinion, broadly speaking a fast rider on a 140+ bike that likes moderate to high damping (and you should) will benefit from re-tuning a shock to a firmer overall settings. As on Rockshox and more to the point fox products, most fast riders are close to maximising the usable damping range before they hit a LSC wall and can't reallt use the end range of clicks without it losing early travel grip and responsiveness. When you order it, it does actually come tuned for you already. But since a lot of people love tinkering with their setups, we figured we'd try to make it easier rather than obstruct their efforts.

Like Big Hits? 190/200? Those were awesome and they make me jealous that the kids THESE days gets 26/27 mullet Status builds, but I'm too big to try to use that reach lol to this day i'd still kill for a 2015 status DH build. and I know Specialized stuck a DC on the enduro 'evo' one year and yeah maybe wouldnt love riding a stinky in 2024 but i'd absolutely take a Process 167 off someones hands lol

For the park rats, depending on what trails you actually ride, a shorter travel bike may make the most sense. A lot of full-on DH bikes feel a bit "sleddy", if you spend all your time on A-Line. But yeah, these kinds of builds will always be pretty niche, that's for sure. I had a good time when I did a "downduro" conversion of my Capra back in 2020, I liked how the bike rode. I was going to private message you but you have it turned off. I don’t disagree wcs needed their fields cut down for logistical reasons. I do disagree greatly with how the eso is doing it. Calling commencal a family team is like calling Koch industries a family business. And that’s not a rip on max commencal. He is good for the sport. Nice work! That would be excellent. I also used a lock on grip clamp for a universal IFP tool I was working on a few years ago - its the perfect size for a tool that fits in almost any shock body! (also had an integrated o-ring sizing cone, X2 IFP puller and a flat side for sticking a ruler on). I planned to test a flat steel version with a shim ID measure tool instead of the cone too. @Primoz - yeah Fox service tool pricing is ridiculous and even worse that they change the sizing every few years...

I do not look at Fox stuff at all because of their outrageous prices for tooling that is very product/generation specific vs. RS pulling along 20+ year old tools in same spec to newer generations of products. To service a modern Air sprung RS fork and shock you need a set of Allen keys, a cassette tool without the 12 mm pin, dust seal installation tool, a bleed syringe for mineral oil, circlip pliers (covered the fork here) and the reservoir wrench, shaft clamps, piggyback inflating adapter from RS and a torque wrench. Yea, in highschool my parents were thrilled when my old X-vert triple dumped 4+ year old damper fluid all over the living room carpet from the kitchen counter..... I love rebuilding Rockshox stuff, its very straight forward, just follow each step of the tech docs.

No shock requires a vacuum bleeder, they just make it easier and quicker. If you're rebuilding dampers all day long, that's way too many hand jobs!😶 Tools: Appropriate sized shaft clamps for the damper shaft A few different size Knipex pliers Some nice syringes (the vet ones work great and can be rebuilt) Any specialty fittings for oil ports and charging the IFP ( Anso is a great source for these and other parts/tools) A nice pick for removing old seals No need for nitrogen, plain ol' atmosphere works fine for home work. Sick video actually. The closing message feels bit cocky though. Buddy's clearly a confident rider, but I guarantee you there's plenty of people held back by their bikes. Often it may be a matter of setup, often it's just a bad geometry. But just because a good rider can ride an outdated bike well doesn't mean that a beginner can progress as good on a bad bike as he could on a good well fitting bike. It doesn't need to be the newest and fanciest, but to say the bike doesn't matter is not quite accurate.

So comparing Maxxis shorty 2’s and highroller 3’s side by side in my local bike shop yesterday there is hardly any difference (you’d need a set of verniers to tell basically). Really liked the old shorty, but moved to the assegai as I find it better all round. Kind of a weird play on Maxxis’ part that no-one seems to have made much of.
