As above, fatherhood is definitely having a much bigger impact than economical factors or technological factors. I answered "about the same" even though the way I spend money has changed a lot. I used to buy an entry level bike between 2-3k every other year, and then spend tons on upgrades, constant changes of suspension wheels, brakes, tyres, pedals, grips etc etc. Now I spend a lot more (4-6k) upfront on an ebike every 2-3 years, but I barely upgrade it, as it just doesn't have as much affect on the ride quality as base geo and components are usually...

I’d say the biggest factors in my spending decrease is having a 1 year old at home and moving where the nearest trails are +30 minutes away.

the frame designers and shock makers are always going back and forth since time immemorial - originally the shocks were too progressive, which limited air shocks to short travel until 5th element brought out a large volume can which meant long travel bikes (130mm!) could use them. Volumes got bigger and travel increased so we started adding spacers to reduce that volume while running more sag, and now we seem to have a bit of both - I still get confused by Rockshox and their naming of air springs, which take in to account the volume of the negative chamber...

Last 2 years 13 World Cups Made every semi & final 2 Podiums 8 Top 10 Finishes Finished outside top 20 twice (Loudenvielle & Les Gets cluster Fokk this year) Hasn’t been outside Top 30 a single time. And that’s with switching from every single component of Santa Cruz/Shimano/Fox to Canyon/Sram/RockShox.

If I remember correctly, in a podcast Greg said that his deal includes after he retires, running the team, developing the bike. I would imagine he wants to have a similar role like Peaty does with Santa Cruz.

If you're young & looking for support for your racing, submissions for 2025 should have been submitted & follow up phone calls completed by now. Dorval/Commencal is actually doing right by fans & riders to announce this now. Demonstrates to racers coming up that you need to have finances & in order by now to be remotely successful. They recognized early on financial limitations were an issue, didn't drag it out & will give their riders...
