Similarly, I picked up an unused team frame back in 2014 (I think) and it was my favorite DH bike hands down. One of the few bikes I wish I still had.

I've had countless bikes, still chasing the dragon of my Ex Dean Lucas world champs wilsons rear suspension performance. There was so much trick stuff on that bike, coil converted world cup, proto 27.5 rear linkage. Dumbest move I ever made selling that bike

All i can confirm here is that it does not look like someone took a chainsaw to it, but they have not taken a spartan approch to the design. I think it's going to create a big bang when it drops.

Amaury was on radials when he won at Val di Sole in the rain and mud, which I guess means he was on radial Dans? Definitely not a production tire. Wouldn't even be 20g going off my experience with trimming the centre off of every knob on a WTB Judge (I was jankily turning it into a edge 22). When I weighed all the offcuts it was 18g.

Bingo. Like he said, you can tell it's a Dan because of the useless vestigial side knobs halfway down the sidewall. The teams used to cut them off, but I think they''ve mostly given up and leave them be now. It's an extra 20 grams maybe.

Pretty sick capture. And yeah, there ain't much damping on a tire, so it makes senses that it would rebound faster than the shock. Still, good eye. Not sure I would have caught that if you hadn't mentioned it. It even looks like the rear tire has rebounded so completely that it's airborne again.

7/20/2026 1:11pm It was a Kryptotal Fr DH Casing Super Soft. I don't have it anymore and didn't take pictures of the production date, but I had bought it in the Spring of 2024, so probably made in 2023.

I have a few rides on the Specialized tires, Butcher Front / Eliminator rear on my 170mm bike from blown out dry to hero dirt in the backcountry (not purpose built or bike park). I also have a tacky chan + roamy in trail casing on my 130mm bike so have experience with radial. Main takeaways so far Improved grip over Conti DH (SS front, S rear) - Better braking right away was noticable, its like I added 15% braking power. Ridden enough 12 speed stuff that I’ve “downgraded” to XT 11 speed on one bike and X01/GX 11 speed on the other bike. These days my ego can deal with going 2 teeth smaller on the chain ring. If I still had the legs for it I would scrape together 10 speed XTR again….
