Jason, this was just fantastic. Thank you for this granular look at suspension curves and air springs. Would love more of a "so what" at the end so we can start thinking about how this applies to bikes other than the SJ.

You know how rich dorks move into the cool neighborhood and then start complaining about the nightclub’s noise and the neighborhood starts sucking and becomes lame and they’re all looking around like what? That’s what this feels like. Union embodied the passion that truly drives the sport. Their whole thing was to help, not to earn. Pricing them out is not better for anyone.

I only cracked one front wheel and it was a hit that would have literally caved an alloy rim in. Up at Sunpeaks mid-summer, landed front heavy on a square edge hit from about 5-7 feet out of the air. Put a finger-sized hole directly through the tread of an enduro casing Kryptotal with 25 psi if that says anything. Haven't been able to do anything to the rear wheel despite some solid bike park abuse. To me, spending the extra over an alloy set makes way more sense as the replacements are quick and free. I do agree with you that there must have been damage that I could not see beneath the tape, etc. I was pretty thorough of checking the wheels almost every ride for any small cracks that could develop into something more. I am still on the same rear wheel and haven't touched any spokes which speaks durability of the wheel.

On the data Aquisition device it would be safe to say that the shaft speeds would increase when there is less pedal kickback/feedback or if you were just to go chainless. Is that safe to say?

Thanks Blake, this is exactly the discussion I'm hoping to have on here. What sort of difference would you expect to see in the data? Bike using more travel, using less, more force at the rear axle, or less? My hunch is the bike with bad pedal kick will use less travel because it's getting hung up on the chain/anti-squat as it's trying to compress. (I think this would produce more measurable force at the pedals, too, because you're getting more force in your feet as opposed to absorbed by your rear spring).
