10/24/2024 9:01pm FSA has a system called the RAS. not a full +/- 10mm (20mm overall) but about +/-5mm. Being shopped to companies right now with an open design so that it can become a standard. Discussions on angle as well (though gets into a MULTITUDE of cup options if you combo it all). We are trying... just need bike companies to buy in. But the designs are out there and being shopped.

10/24/2024 6:01am Yes, all the current ones are like that, only compatible with the frame they are made for. A standardized size that does this would be nice. In a way, all headsets except IS has " an extra widget that went into the frame/headtube"

10/24/2024 4:49am https://ridegg.com/pages/geoadjust-headset-tuning Guerilla gravity had some as well. And there is the Specialized Stumpy Evo / Levo etc one for angle adjustment, and Trek has something similar I think.

10/23/2024 11:35pm A standardized (blasphemy!) oval'ish headset standard would be awesome that give +-10mm reach/lots of angle adjust

10/22/2024 11:51pm That 10-45 12speed XTR cassette is definetly not vapourware. Ran one for 2-3 season and currently running a SLX 10-45 12sp cassette (there is also a XT 10-45 version) with the same XTR GS 12 speed derailleur. They are also the cassette used currently for the 12 speed GRX gravel group so plenty of stock available. But there is no SLX GS derailleur, only XT or XTR version. My next build will be XT GS derailleur and 10-45 SLX cassette with XTR chain. The vapourware stuff was the 10-45 11 speed hyperglide+ cassette that was mentionned during XTR launch but...

Marcus J Added a reply to Rimpact Chain Damper
10/21/2024 6:53am It has the same function as the ochain but they are trying to convince everyone that they have invented something new and groundbreaking because they are calling it the chain damper, doing what we have all discussed here that the ochain does. I welcome more actors in the pedal kickback/chaindamping but I hope the worst on this pack of liars...

10/20/2024 10:50pm I think that the frame compliance needs to work together with the suspension, I don’t think suspension will ever soak up every bump and frequency. I think that’s why the mass dampers are coming onto the scene. It can help eliminate some frequency that the suspension doesn’t need to, so then you can tune the suspension to soak up other forces. Totally agree about forks! I try and suggest to friends to try something other than the Fox40. I find it way too rigid and I’m 180lb. The Ohlins has a much better feel. The new Boxxer 38 is the...

10/18/2024 1:09am my $0.01, to complete the 2, is that... USD double crown is the more reliable solution.. having ridden back to back Ohlins 38 and Intend Infinity EN @ 180mm (and also @ 190mm) the difference in fore-af stiffness is night and day, way better with the USD....intentionally braking in the wrong places (roots and rocks) you feel like your front brake has more power with the intend..the ohlins wants to bind a little but then gives in and works good whereas the intend is clearly just pure spring and damper, no binding at all ..I will stop as I dont...

Marcus J Added a comment about press release Introducing the New Rocky Mountain Element
10/17/2024 12:02am Great looking bike and "lower flexpivot" makes so much sense. I hope they can manage to make a similar enduro bike. Slim tubes should even be stronger than thicker ones for the same weight, but more flexy. But I guess the idea of the look of a longer travel bike should be more beefy in designers eyes. Maybe it is hard to get a good straight leverage curve on the top link horizontal shock layout... one can dream

10/16/2024 11:55pm Mechanically speaking, nothing is gained with a 15mm axle over a 20mm. What we gained by going with the (mechanically inferior) 15mm axle is the rapid and widespread adoption of thru-axles across all mountain bikes, then road bikes, then gravel and CX bikes. If the axle choices in 2012 (or whenever) were viewed as a binary choice between lightweight XC-oriented QR axles and a heavy DH-oriented 20mm thru axle, I think it would have taken a lot longer for product managers to go out on a limb and spec better forks and axles. 15mm axles gave product managers needed cover...

10/16/2024 11:42pm This is basically why V&R Racing exists. To help cover the travel costs for junior (women) WC racers. (We kept Taylor Ostgaard on for an extra year in Elite cuz she's just so frickin awesome.) We'd love to expand and help more racers, but for now, we'll stay focused and try to fill the need. We'd love to see more sponsors like us helping fill this gap. We'll throw a little teaser out since this is the rumors thread - our next sponsored rider races for Gravity Collective.

10/10/2024 12:53am The bending stiffness of a tube increases to the fourth power with respect to diameter... Ie bigger tubes are way fucking stiffer than smaller tubes. But steerers are flexy, crowns are flexy, and axle interfaces are flexy. If you put some effort into locking the two tubes together then they work together and will flex together, and this also massively increases stiffness. The keyed axle of the Mattoc or a 20mm axle with four pinchbolts like the old 36, the bulky crown like a lyrik, all help to make the most of their tube stiffness. The flexy modern 36 with...
