Jackson vs Amaury vs Bruni vs Finn vs the pack of wild dogs nipping at all their heals is going to be glorious in '24. Now only if there was a reasonable to actually watch it.

They recorded that podcast no more than a week or two ago. Gwin's 'team' situation is definitely still coming together. Sounds like a program he's building around himself. But had to find Gwin money in this economy. Might be Gwin Factory Racing with VeeTires, Maxxis and Fox as his main sponsors, along with Yeti for frames and money. On a related note, there is maybe a slight chance he lands a frame deal with Trek. He liked that high pivot frame and there is the American tie and TFR has budget free'd up from Vali and Cade's race team departures...

Is Wei Tien Ho on Commencal for bikes yet or just skis? Perhaps he elevates to a factory rider...

Not that Neko knows everything about it, but he mentioned on the Vital podcast that he's not sure Gwin knows what Gwin is doing this year. I'm not sure when exactly that podcast went out, but that doesn't leave a lot of time to make a team deal happen (though he could as suggested do more of a privateer thing).

A few years ago, I swore I wasn't going to get one until I was 50 and my kid was old enough to want to be towed uphill. Then one of my buddies bought one for fun and trail work, and I tried it. By the end of that 3 day trip borrowing it, I was shopping online for one. I've had one for just over a year now. Basically, the right time is: * when you can afford it * when your time to get out and ride is limited, and you mostly care about the downhill * if...

Kettlebells - swings, presses, squat, farmer carry. Master those 4 movements and guaranteed it will carry over to the bike. Best form of training I have found that works not only for mtb but overall strength and endurance. However, there is a learning curve to kettlebells. Best to take it slow and ensure technique is spot on - don’t want to lose time off bike bc you messed something up training to be better on the bike.

Can’t endorse kettlebells enough. They’ve helped me fix some really severe muscle imbalances, develop proper movement patterns, and get a lot stronger.

Like this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djm3OF0C-R4 maybe 20 years after seeing this on TV I rode the trail for the fist time myself and could not believe what these people were doing on those brakes.

This makes sense. Bigger wheel = bigger lever, which in turns requires a bigger rotor to act as a bigger lever in response. All I know is that my longstanding dual piston XT brakes were NOT cutting it when I switched to 29" wheels.

On a moto- single finger is plenty to do a stoppie. Pad clearance is about zero- wheel rotates a few times when spun off the ground… Not acceptable for a bicycle.

Worth mentioning that brake power is relative to rotating weight. As your rim, tire, and potentially tire insert get bigger and heavier, your wheel is significantly harder to stop, which necessitates bigger rotors. That sounds a little conspiracy hat-ty, but it's real. I felt this as I upgraded to 29" from 27.5", and as I started moving towards downhill tires and later inserts on my trail bikes, and I believe this is why 4-piston brakes are now standard on trail and even XC bikes, when 2 piston brakes were fine on many 26" enduro bikes. I'd also bet my bottom...
