Not to sound like a dick but I hope most people ignore this. 1) Martin is one of one. You don't ride a bike like him and neither do I. 2) According to the telemetry data I've seen, most (good) riders do in fact use their brakes for ~85% of a descent. Even Neko just noted at the WC level guys are on their brakes 80% of a run. 3) The whole point of a brake is to take kinetic energy and turn it into thermal energy. The more "room" a system has with respect to heat management, the better...

This is going to sound like a cop out, but it really does work incredibly well with both. My heart will always be with coil though, and I’m particularly partial to the concept of a short travel trail bike with coil as a way to really get the best of both worlds…

The bike is engineered (frame sizing wise) around a M. Take front center # and divide by rear center # (chain stay). There's your fitment ratio. Fastest riders are typically between 1.81-1.89 with the most relaxed balanced sweet spot seeming to be 1.84-1.86. Getting in this sweet spot ratio range really benefits ideal body positioning on the bike to help you settle into a more 'relaxed attack' position which translates to reduced severity of oversteer *and* understeer events. Oversteer caused typically by too "high" a ratio (longer reach frames) and understeer caused by a lower ratio # (shorter reach frames)...

People will hate me for this, but read a book on VO2 max. The book written decades ago by Davis Phinney goes in detail on how to elevate your entire cardiovascular system over time to achieve massive loads, huge wattage & so much more. All written shortly before the massive doping scenarios started playing out. Most all of the kids out there have no understanding of base fitness training for cyclists and why it exists. Guys like Chris Herndon, a USAC certified coach, who worked with the Shaw brothers, Charlie Harrison and many more took the long road & got...

Great first hour! Thanks for that. I really agreed when y'all lamented on the lack of an infrastructure for high level coaching, technique and skills work in mtb. To contrast what we have in MTB, I recently walked into an indoor baseball training center for kids. They had high speed cameras, cutouts to mimic certain pitching situations, all sorts of gadgets and data analytics....everything. On the other hand, when I asked our local fast mtb kid what training he does and he just said he rides a lot. That's it. Makes you wonder how much faster (and safer) we could...

Shaun Palmer famously didn't know what to demand of his first big contract. I believe he said Peaty told him a number he thought sounded crazy to ask for. Think Palmer said the company (maybe the big S?) didn't blink & he knew he'd shot too low for even what he was used to. Without Peaty's input, he'd have de-valued himself even more, so it's excellent advise. It's fascinating that when you look around the industry, there are very few racers who know their true value & how to maximize it.

For those that don't know the B Team background, would be a good off-season podcast to do on how you all meet, grom days, and the background of B Team bois.

I'm not, not down, I just wonder if people care haha. I guess we have been doing these long enough with no context on who Tanner and I are or how we are all friends. We all met through racing, and each friendship does have a funny story behind how it started. I'll add it to the list for this off-season; I love reminiscing!

these are my favorite podcasts, thanks for making them. I've always wondered how dak would answer when respectfully asked to compare himself to other top pros. What do they do that Dak does better and the other way around. Also what technical skills (straight line rock garden speed, berms, etc) does he feel are his "weak" point and how did he about deciding that? Basically, how does he go about auditing himself?

yup, that's about it for me too. We talking pedal bikes? if I ever have to buy a pedal bike again I'll be looking at the absolute bargain basement model...aluminum frame NX rhythm fork whatever...pedal bikes are solved for everyone on the planet save for you guys here... it's all ebike, and really mostly just battery stuff. Integrated gearbox would be sweet, I'd go for that sooner than later, but battery capacity still the number one thing for me, and we're already so dialed. I'm riding a Repeater on heavy trails (heavier than I should be, probably, at my age...

one thing i think should be added here - how many companies guarantee availability of replacement parts for a certain amount of time after purchasing a bike? the only company i can think is Nicolai, who guarantee supply of spare parts for 10 years.

It’s a good idea. they already (almost) killed the independent shops (at least for sales of bikes) and started buying their own dealers back ( spesh and trek) might as well turn the whole thing into dirt bikes: buy a ktm at a ktm shop -and the ktm shop works on the ktm really well -with ktm parts and ktm (and WP of course) certified service -and everyone wins. Oh dang do I hate doing the top end on my dirt bikes. In my apartment. Makes the fork oil changes feel almost fun tho. I think bulletman is on target...

One thing that might be skewing the data is demographics and age. I'm a college student, and I primarily ride gravity oriented bikes, just like almost everyone I know my age. So when TPC offered $500 for my bike that I sold the next week on Marketplace for $1300, there's no way I'm taking that deal. That's a large portion of my income each year, and the difference in price is a whole new Zeb. Similarly, when I buy a bike, I usually go towards Pinkbike or Marketplace because the deals are that much better, and if there are any...

Man, sometimes you just gotta make and sell bikes and focus on consumers. Backing riders and hoping for returns to track from it isn't an easy task for a smaller biz. I really hope Guerrilla Gravity does good. I made the mistake of agreeing to a "crash replacement" frame from Kona for my Process 153 & regret it. Had the opportunity to buy a GG right about the same time with a fantastic spec but nobody wanted my super shiny brand new, no warranty, Kona hates you frameset.

I think you should mention what pressures you ran with each tire. It makes a huge difference in how certain tires ride, and as you noted the different casing stiffness can really affect the ride feel. I really like the Kryptotal Fr for Northern California conditions, but apparently you guys weren't big fans of it. I'm able to run their DH casing tires about 3-4 psi less than Maxxis Double Down or Schwalbe Super Trail, without having a bunch of squirm. At low pressures like this, the grip is incredible but still compliant. I also think you would have been...

And the bar continues to rise It's going to be a wild season....This video also made me think about how cool a wheel sponsor would have been when I was racing, so I could no-brake into boulders without batting an eye. I'm almost positive that is what was separating me from the top 20.
