10/8/2026 11:59am I'm surprised it took this long, the move never made sense to me since they were just selling santa cruzs in different colors with maybe a different build kit. The whole idea of bringing women's bikes back never made sense either, bikes are bikes and don't need to be gendered in some way. If Santa cruz just invested in their own image they would have been way ahead.

10/7/2026 2:48pm I’ve seen it too many times in this thread recently. I’m sorry but grammar matters sometimes. You pedal a bike. Therefore it’s pedaling a bike or pedaling efficiency. Peddle means to travel from place to place selling small goods, or to persistently try to convince people to accept an idea, story, or piece of information. Peddling is the act of trying to sell those goods or ideas. The only thing you’re peddling with an eCVT is the idea that it’s somehow better (or worse) than the other options.

1 day ago Seems like a horrible idea to chase marginal gains in rear wheel bracing angle (that have largely been rejected by the consumer base due in part to standard fatigue) when the whole industry is working on SKU consolidation

10/7/2026 11:30am Seems like the question I posed a page or so ago about the possibility of a split in bike-part standards (one for peddle-bikes, and another for e-bikes) might be in our future --- now has an answer. Not ideal for those that have a mixed fleet, and want to be able to swap parts between them, but perhaps this will minimize the design-bias toward >750W ebbs for those of us that still like to peddle.

10/6/2026 6:16pm It seems wild to me that people would run a DH bike with zero bash protection! It's as if the preventative measures work so well, that people forget why they were developed in the first place and get complacent.....

10/6/2026 3:24pm This is the point that many forget when there's outrage over the use of AI for creative work. Those capabilities were built on the learning (mass consumption) of human-derived material with no compensation whatsoever. We haven't even touched on the fact that the output is now some gross generalization of individual creativity, so now our world gets painted with a single brush rather than many. This is why most low input A.I. generated images look the same depending on the model you use. Low input is an interesting point because we can also discuss the erosion of true skillsets (think...

10/6/2026 3:24pm Remember that the AI slop generator was trained on stock images without compensation to the photographers or rights holders. Though perhaps the relative scarcity of mountain biking photos in the training data is why Jeff's preferred slop generator couldn't quite work out what the fuck a tire is, so your point has merit.

10/5/2026 12:47pm As a professional mechanic I'm surprised at how bad the quality control is in general in mtb. From bad alignment, poor parts spec, lack of proper covers on bearings to shit geo, etc. When clients ask what bikes I'd recommend I'm left scratching my head lol. It feels like the marketing guys decide most stuff, the product managers don't ever ride and/or the engineers are terrible. How is it that ebikes are still specced with EXO tyres, 35mm forks and 12 speed non ebike specific cassettes??? Why does DT Swiss still make straight pull spoke and aluminium nipple wheels??? I...

10/3/2026 8:34pm I don’t think it’s gone anywhere, but naturally the industry will cater to the highest mileage riders. That group used to be the weight weenies and now it’s the ebikers

10/3/2026 5:09pm This is a good question but as someone that used to chronically go through parts, the defeat of the weight weenies has been a welcome one.

10/2/2026 3:18pm I feel like we might be at a pivotal moment, at least in the US, With CA SB 1167 now signed into law. It will be interesting to see if the e-bike market hits a fork in the road, one branch conforming to the law to remain as legal e-bikes, and the other going full bore into the uber-powered e-moto scene. Personally, I'd kind of like to see this happen, or rather, I'd like to see companies quit designing pedal-bike parts based on perceived e-bike loads. The current trend is either e-bikes using pedal bike parts, resulting in a short...

10/2/2026 3:15pm Switching bike/drivetrain mid-season would not be something most riders/teams would want to do. If anyone is going to give up the belt drive, they will do it next season.

10/1/2026 1:41pm I don't think critiquing the use of AI slop means people are trying to chase him away. He's an extremely smart guy with a lot of insight that everyone is very grateful for, and proud to have as part of this community. (We love you Jeff). I think it's normal for people you like to make decisions you disagree with. Everyone gives their friend some shit when they say something dumb, or yells at the TV when their favorite soccer player makes a bad pass.

9/27/2026 9:01am This part. It makes me feel like a moron for working so hard at all my shit-paying jobs. Must be nice to be wildly incompetent and get either no repercussion or... OR maybe a bonus. Just because.
