Oliver is a smart guy! He made my original handle which I still use, as well as my steerer pressing gear. I think that new design just uses very fine machining on the surface to gradually draw it through the bushing and wouldn't be removing any material. It's probably a lot better than the technique of trying to mash an oversized tool through the bushing with brute force as I know for a fact that can tear the material away from the steel backing. I honestly think Rockshox doesn't get enough credit for their attention to friction - everyone loves to talk about the latest dampers but those come well after the friction and the spring in terms of what actually matters. I noticed things like increasing the bushing length and carefully choosing bath oil viscosity (not too thick in most forks, but the short travel skinny leg forks get heavier oil) along with good alignment and clearances in the new forks. Fox still use very short bushings in all their models, plus I'm positive the oil channels they added in the lowers do...

From what I was told originally, he was interested in developing a complete fork. Steve said that the newer chassis out there are good enough to not make it worth their time to worry about a full package. It was about a year ago that he told me the fork cart was coming after the Tellum release, I've been patiently waiting ever since. I personally am not impressed with the charger 3 or the X2. I like my MRP V1 lift over both, and like my Ohlins TTX in the 38M2 over everything else.

Somebody asked about fork dampers on Vorsprung's IG last week, and they said "sure", or words to that effect. I emailed Vorsprung asking if they could make a 38 damper, and they replied that Steve has designs started, there is no guaranteed timeline, but that they can likely make one that's cost competitive vs the GRIP X2 and Charger 3.1 dampers. When I regained consciousness, I posted about it here.

I wasn't too sure where to post this so feel free to delete or move accordingly if it's in the wrong thread. Troy Brosnan's mechanic seems to be double taping the rim. Once with the Dt-Swiss rim tape and then a layer of Gorilla Tape over the top? What could the reasons be behind this? It looks like the DT tape is going from edge to edge so the Gorilla wouldn't be offering any additional adhesive. Is it a tape thickness thing? Never seen anyone double tape like that before.

One reason might be to prevent flats. I've only had 2 flats in the past year and a half, but both were from breaking a spoke, which then pushed back through the hole in the DTSwiss rim and punctured the rim tape. Regular rim tape (stans, mucoff, etc) isn't good against spoke impacts, but it doesn't leave residue when you peel it off like Gorilla tape. If combined, you get no residue, but also better resistance against spoke punctures.

Most 15mm axles are hollow aluminum. The easiest solutions to making them stiffer is to not hollow them out, and/or to make them from steel or titanium. I've not done the calculations ( @Primoz, didn't you do that?), but I imagine it could be as stiff as thin walled aluminum 20mm axles. If you look at huck to flat videos it seems that the worst of the flex is at or around the crown. The most productive solution for single crown forks might be to return to 100mm OLD - a 10% narrower CSU would be 10% stiffer.

Thanks everyone. Looks like Freaky Nuts doesn't do Ohlins so that doesn't work for me but still looks like a great solution. An A.170 with a DC fork is very nice.

With Fox poised to enter the inverted fork market, it seems like a good time to dig into some of the current options. Regarding the Telum shock: The ontrail revalve feature is very very nice and useful. Basically the Telum recommandations are very good. They are more on the safe site so that a lot of people can drive it. There is no surprise and the shock is working very good. But if you want to go crazy with data acquisation at the bike, then you can see the advantage of the Telum. Also you see, that there is different tune for the rebound necessary. At this is easy doable. You can achieve the same results with a RS Vivid, MZ Bomber CR...

A slightly stiffer version of the compression tune Fluid Focus recommended was run, which was the 2nd from softest. I added an .8 x .006 shim to the C6 tune. Rebound started with the tune recommended for a 450-500# spring (using a 475#). It was topping out a bit so it was swapped to the 525-575# tune. 3 test sessions, 18 runs, 9 hours, 1 roasted rear tire, and a few more dings in the rim. The results are finally in with the Fluid Focus tuned Marzocchi Bomber CR coming out on top in every session. All three shocks were ridden extensively prior to the timed runs, including multiple bracketing sessions to get the settings in a good place. People are riding 42lb enduro bikes and love them. Lightweight bikes were a curse to the sport. So many performance compromises in pursuit of light bikes.
