10/26/2020 12:51pm That’s what the bull does. Spend a bunch of money in some extreme sport and then get into a position to dictate terms. The fact that their media house is who we have to rely on for race coverage sucks to no end. The fact that the uci let them in tells you everything you need to know about the uci and their feelings towards dh.

10/22/2020 8:55am agreed that was the obvious one at first, but in light of this development it's a possibility. a square is a polygon too, so it could be interpreted either way.

10/22/2020 8:34am Hart to a new Polygon team? their bike is the Xquareone (square one - warner made a square comment during commentating). with tracey no longer racing WC's Polygon may want a WC racer. unsure about Mick, but he's been racing a long time too. edit: sounds like she's staying with UR racing, who has multiple frame sponsors over the years...

10/22/2020 6:58am If you're 220 pounds and you're folding tires, just take the weight penalty and ride the proper tires. Bike weight is not as important as the industry tells you, and you'll get used to the extra weight if you choose to not dwell on it during your rides. I'd recommend at least DD tires front and rear, with inserts added if you're denting rims or still rolling your rear tire. I weigh 190 pounds and live in the rocky part of Washington, and I used to be fast once. I run DD front and DH rear, and I wouldn't go...

jonkranked Added a reply to Shimano Working on a New Saint Derailleur?
10/16/2020 9:44am if they're working on a new drivetrain, they're working on new brakes. the only times i can think of that shimano hasn't revised the entire platform is when they introduce the di2 drivetrains. and the occasional pedal.

10/16/2020 9:35am with the exception of the pedals, the current saint grouppo has been on market for 8 years. its actually the longest a shimano grouppo has gone unchanged.

10/14/2020 11:25am in my line of work a common approach that's utilized is called bookending - we'll test/validate at the lower & upper limits of pertinent product features/parameters (such as geometry & size) - ie the worst cases - and rationalize not having to test the sizes in between based on having tested the lower and upper extremes. this is approach is...

10/14/2020 11:07am forgot to add: for things like links, dropouts, floating brakes, its definitely a gray area. also - i wonder how they initially handled the Atherton bikes brand since a lot of those are custom, but the same customizations are now commercially available for sale.

10/14/2020 10:57am no, that's from the general organization section of the regulations, so it applies to all cycling disciplines (including BMX and trials). regarding things like custom links, dropouts, etc - the regulations aren't explicitly clear about that, but i would venture a guess there's some leeway there as those are being used on frames that are commercially available - as opposed...

10/14/2020 10:42am see my point above re: UCI rules. there's a 12 month timeframe you can race a bike without it being for sale to the public before you have to start selling it or stop racing it.

10/14/2020 7:24am on the c'dale team topic - there is a UCI rule that stipulates bikes/components used in racing must be available for commercial sale within a certain timeframe from when they are first raced. since c'dale didn't commercialize the DH bike they were racing, i've been wondering if that was a factor in the dissolvement of the team. per UCI: Part...

10/13/2020 8:15pm not for nothing, but giant currently isn't offering their DH bike for sale in the US, not sure if that's business driven or is somehow tangentially driven by their limited DH program - 3 riders, one of whom isn't a dedicated full time racer. nothing against EJ, one of my fav riders, but he wasn't planning on a full 2020...

10/5/2020 6:55am Hey, remember 9 posts ago in this thread when we were bummed that Bike Magazine was going out of business? Or the part where we were grateful for decades of great MTB content from so many amazing contributors, editors, photographers, and writers? That was cool.
