Watching the Downtime Podcast with Marcus Flossman . I just got super upset. He talks about arranging a legal way to deliver bikes to customers while under court administration where he bought the bikes to deliver to the customers with his own money but then later on in the video, he’s basically shrugging 🤷🏼‍♂️ his shoulders when it came to supporting YT Mob , says the court wouldn’t let them pay the riders or the team. Racing and an ambassador like Tippie both come out of the marketing budgets for most companies. Which one is going to potentially sell more bikes? The guy racing or the guy at races and other events stoking other riders as well as hyping up your brand? I might be biased since I know Brett, but he brings a lot to the table and maybe for less than a WC racer.. That article really sums up Brett quite nicely.

Tippie isn’t competitive, and you’re not really hiring him to ride. He's basically a marketing ambassador. You aren’t paying him to even ride, really. He has a skill set that’s beyond riding and something that most people, regardless of their riding ability, don’t have. He’s not really a “modern” influencer, because social media isn’t his medium, but a brand would basically “sponsor” him in the same way as an influencer, not as a racer/freerider. You’re paying for the personality and story, not the talent.

Jackson to Visma? Crazy how different the bikes are (outside of being dh vs road). Wout is SO much taller than Jackson, but his bike looks absolutely tiny.

Their enduro team was done last year but they graciously kept me on board for this year with my contract having another year on it. Sounds obvious of course, but the bike industry isn't always so giving. The DH team took me in and I had a blast all year long, which was the main reason for doing DH at the end of the year. I just wanted to hang out with the team some more, and who wouldn't take the chance to race World Cup DH while they can. As for next year, stay tuned.

Tippie was in NWA quite a bit over the last couple of years as part of YT events. Everything said on that writeup is true. He's unflagging in his positivity and stoke. He includes everyone and interact with everyone from the kookiest kid to the most seasoned pro. He's almost uncomfortably positive and full of stoke at times, but a brand really couldn't ask for a better ambassador. I hope he lands somewhere. Dude is a legend, and his story of climbing out of the dark depths of addiction is inspirational.

I wonder if Ella Swegby will be racing this year for Trek. She was away all 2025 season, but she posted that she was back on the bike last month. She had some very good results 2024, after switching from Enduro to DH.

Team Rumor: I think Dak's video of him riding a Mondraker with Pinky is exactly the same thing as the Jake Jewett on a Pivot video posted last year around this time. I think (in both cases even though I have no proof of it) there was an obligation to the sponsor that needed to be filled - a certain amount of videos released or something - and this video from Dak is him finishing off an obligation to (or activating a bonus from) Mondraker. I'm not 100% opposed to that idea, but I think it comes with a few caveats. A shorter final will make for a better media product, but overall worse for us hardcore fans. That would have to come with Youtube live Q2, so you can still have a chance to watch your favorite riders. And the tracks would have to be more difficult with impressive features if you're really trying to catch the barely interested TV viewer. Then you will need more non-endemic sponsors because Larry watching channel 23 doesn't give a shit about which suspension brand offers the most...
