10/17/2024 5:42am Not sure if this was caught by anyone else, but Open might have just leaked some details on a new Shimano derailleur while promoting a new gravel frame of theirs? https://opencycle.com/blog/new-direction-for-up-and-upper

10/16/2024 12:19pm Right now the market fell out of mid and low end sales post covid. Top of the line stuff is probably chugging along just fine, as the target market is relatively recession immune, so we're going to see the eggs go into that basket for a while.

10/16/2024 12:19pm I think we're entering into a new pricing scheme in mtb. And it's happening because human brains are so dumb. Bikes are going to - over time - be priced higher and higher and higher and higher until ebikes and meatbikes (my favorite term for non-e-bikes) are almost the same price. Then mtb riders will start looking at ebikes more as a "why WOULDN'T I just get the ebike?" sort of way. Normalizing the higher meatbike price while directing more people to ebikes. All the while, the mtb industry is Hobby Lobbying the shit out of their prices. All the...

10/16/2024 12:07pm I know this site is more big bike centered but Corey Wallace (Kona endurance racer...) spotted on a proto g3 Hei-Hei. Proof that Kona is still alive!

10/16/2024 12:06pm On the note of disengaging hubs and pedal kick, so long as whatever drive mechanism you have can automatically engage when you pedal forwards, it's impossible to prevent it from causing pedal kick. The drive mechanism, whether it be hub or BB based, can't differentiate between the chain getting pulled on due to you pedaling and the chain getting pulled on from the suspension compressing. Riding backwards is a little different in that you can use the fact that the hub is rotating backwards relative to the axle to disengage the hub.

10/16/2024 12:01pm hey all, i started a travel-specific discussion so tech rumors can stay focused on weird/new product - https://www.vitalmtb.com/forums/hub/how-much-suspension-travel-do-you-w… it has data from our 2024 survey that just wrapped up (thx brines for mentioning it)

10/16/2024 12:00pm As a current St Evo owner as well as a Madonna V3 owner, the Madonna pedals 2-3x better than the Stumpy and tracks the ground like Velcro. I have a hard time wanting to ride the Stumpy that weights almost 11 pounds lighter than the Madonna because it doesn’t pedal or track as well as the Madonna. Some of the new suspension gizmos are pretty rad but it seems that they are trying to make up for poor kinematic design that comes from trying to maintain a certain design aesthetic and not from trying to push the design envelope. Trek...

9/17/2024 11:39am What I find confusing about the new Stumpjumpers is they offer it in a coil version with a 27.5 wheel and they've corrected geo for the smaller wheel using the upper link just like with the previous Stumpjumper, which significantly reduces progression. So the most linear bike in the entire lineup comes with a coil.

9/17/2024 11:38am I had a concussion earlier this year and I love the idea of a bike that's so linear they had to make a special air shock being sold with a coil in the top spec.

9/17/2024 11:36am Nothing super revolutionary, but looks like Sean Fincham raced the upcoming Rocky Mountain Element at Chequamegon. Hard to tell what other changes there might be, but looks like they’ve gone with flex stays.

9/17/2024 11:36am If you used a credit card, and it's within the last 6 months, go hit the "dispute" button with your bank. Going by the email it won't be Rob and Mike getting hit with the reversed charges, it'll be the company that took over MI and fired them which gets to involuntarily refund you.
