Seems like a lot of e-bike talk in here lately, can you move this to the e-bike thread?

If anyone doesnt understand this bike I dont blame him, neither did I. But after spending few days in a Sud Tyrol town, through which runs a long distance cycle path that connects Northern Italy and Germany my perception changed big time: I only used said cycle path to link different trails for few km at the time but I'd encounter hundreds of elder people riding such bikes. It was eye opening and I realized there exist bike markets I had no idea about...

(Cross-post from the Bike Economics thread; if people don't think it's relevant to this thread, I'll delete it) My friend (- owner of a small chain of bike shops) just told me that, a couple of days ago, Trek informed their dealerships that there's going to be a lot of change in their product line-up in the near future. Apparenly Trek is discontinuing a bunch of models, including the Session, Slash, Remedy and Top Fuel. The way the announcement was worded makes it seem like there's no direct plans for updates or replacement models for any of them, they'll simply...

luckily you can just buy the cheaper alloy levo 4 and then add the racks, saving you 7k each.

The PUSH "speed service" is simply a lower (or upper😀) leg service, it has nothing to do with the damper. While it's nice to be able to change the bath oil without dropping the legs, I clean the entire leg out when doing a lower service anyway. Injecting clean oil into a dirty fork seems counterintuitive. If you ride in wet conditions it can get nasty in there pretty quickly. The best feature of the PUSH 9.1 speed service oil ports is that you can assemble the fork "dry" and then add bath lube after it's fully together.

In theory, yes - thats why Push has a 50 hour "speed service" for the nine-one that lets you drain the old oil and fill it back up without disassembly, but for other brands its normally worth opening things up to make sure nothing is wearing out. Maybe after a while you would get a feel for how its holding up (if the oil was discolouring each time it means something is wearing or seals are failing) and you could extend things further without a rebuild. This was basically what we did with the old open bath marzocchis and it...

Personal preference but I’ve found I prefer bump stops and volume spacers to HBO. I like HBO as a tool to quickly add bottom out support when I go ride stuff with bigger impacts than I have my setup tuned for (ie park riding vs trail riding) but I don’t like how it feels like you’re jumping on a memory...

Yeah on a more supportive bike it's not happening. The amount of time I spend around 70% on the SJ15 in all it's linearity with the Genie is wild though.

@TEAMROBOT I hear you on the blade, many years ago I snapped the tip off a Stanley and that was the end of that bearing. Dental picks work quite well, and you can also get shaping tools for pottery / ceramic art that are stainless and sturdy. My wife’s set might be missing one. I have absolutely no idea where it could be.

Yeah I've thought for a while that a hydraulic damper could be ideal - you can use a roller bearing with a heavy damping grease (these have WAY more viscosity than any thick grease you normally use) or a small rotary damper to give more speed sensitivity to the cage. Would also have a lot less friction acting on the suspension, ie only damping the large bounces of the cage, and not restricting the small, fast movements of the suspension. The normal friction clutches don't do anything to stop small vibration of the chain, and can amplify bigger impacts because...

The "multiplier effect" is an economic fallacy. "Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed."

Yesterday I spoke with a guy who rode a couple of EDRs and would always ride xtr mech since forever but he was on a sram. He said not only the chain slap was unbearable on the new di2 xtr but he would also drop chains pretty much daily, to the extend the top of his crank which cought the chain became all scratched... The shifting was absolutely amazing but the reliability is horrible and he also noticed shimano sponsored enduro pros would run full dh chain tensioners or STFUs just to keep the chain on, which is mindboggling how...

The point about defence spending having a positive affect on the rest of the economy- in my lectures this was talked about using the concept of the multiplier effect. This is the idea that if someone, ie the state, spends £1 on something then it increases national GDP by some amount because that’s been spent at a local supplier, who then pays wages, their employees go to the local butcher, who buys from the local farmer, etc etc. The issue with defence spending is it has a comparatively poor multiplier effect vs other forms of government spending. If I spend...
