FrontRangeFriend Added a reply to Ride 886 Introduces TopHat, a Modern Dual-stage Air Spring System for Fox and RockShox Forks
6/23/2026 10:25am Not sure, Im on a Fox 38. Its given me better control over the whole air-spring and how progression ramps up but I was also running one volume spacer before I got this so I could afford to physically take up space in my positive air chamber.

6/23/2026 8:52am I've been running one for a couple months now on a '25 Fox 38 and it really opens up the ability to change the character of the fork without cracking it open. I haven't messed around with spacers yet, just pressures and ratios and am very satisfied. It does what is claimed; more top end sensitivity. I find I'm running less compression damping than with my previous 2 spacer setup at Fox recommended pressures. Messed around with some very progressive ratios just for fun and you can get to very supple top end with bottomless feeling, however it sacrificed too...

6/23/2026 8:04am Combine the sensitivity of a coil spring with the tunability of air. Increase comfort and traction without compromising support and control, or tune your fork for hard charging without adding harshness. TopHat's dual-stage air spring system allows for lower initial operating pressure for a supple feel off the top, while the secondary spring provides tunable support and bottom out resistance. Combine improved ride characteristics and options for factory level suspension tuning in one simple, user-friendly package. TopHat simultaneously satisfies the most performance-minded suspension tuners while remaining incredibly simple to use for riders just looking for an effective, set-and-forget upgrade. For...

6/23/2026 10:56am I have one of these and Im liking it! Biggest difference from the DSD Runt is this physically takes up less volume in the fork vs the Runt so you get a bit more headroom on the setup window for useable settings without making the fork too progressive.

6/22/2026 4:04pm that's not really any serious wear IMHO. however santa cruz does sell a lower link if you were concerned or didn't like looking at the damage. that romy 2.4 seems like it has a reasonable amount of clearance, for dry at least.

6/21/2026 8:36am Ran into a guy yesterday who claimed he frequently rides with SRAM employees and mentioned that apparently most people like the Maven Bases the most. Or even running a Maven lever with a Level caliper. Definitely third hand info but I thought it was interesting.

6/18/2026 9:33am Thanks @Evil96 for the suggestion. 2.4 Romy Radial clears a Santa Cruz Hightower v4 frame. Second pic is the damage one ride did to the linkage when I was too lazy to change out 2.5 Albert.

6/18/2026 9:32am Had a pretty big ride on the new 2.4 Trail Romy radial, just because it’s quite a bit shorter than the Albert I went up 1 psi, I’m impressed by the grip, after the first ride it measures 60mm knob to knob, gained 2mm from when freshly mounted. It rolls considerably faster than the Albert, I can make it drift/slide without forcing it with the brakes unlike the Albert, still great traction on tech/slippery climbs and great braking traction on the way down too, really nice tyre

6/18/2026 9:28am The original post feels like a prank because there is no front tire with more consistent grip than the Assegai because it was specifically designed to eliminate the dead zone between the center grip and the side knobs. Before the Assegai, the primary Maxxis DH front tires were either the DHF, DHR2, or the High Roller 2, each of which featured a large gap between the side knobs and center knobs. As others have mentioned, it's that gap that creates the "dead zone" between hooking and sliding on the DHR2 and High Roller 2, and especially on the DHF. In...

6/17/2026 2:16pm I’ve been liking the Trickstuff Power pads. Im not the heaviest rider and our downhills aren’t always steep so its nice that they come up to temp quickly.

6/16/2026 8:42am This reminds me, and this has probably already been covered on Tech rumours to some extent (at least the product), but something that I've not really seen before is happening in BC: a Chinese brand Seekrun is paying for a translator/marketing person, as well as designing engineer (who does not speak a lick of English) to travel around BC and hand out samples of their $319 CAD wireless dropper post. It is apparently a cartridge system, and has already been picked up by S4 for Canadian distribution, as well as another distributor operating seekrun.ca. I don't think the dropper itself...

6/16/2026 8:40am They aren't stupid, but many top execs in the industries I worked in just don't care about long term. The "let's crush this quarter's numbers and land a massive bonus today because tomorrow, we may not be here" is the name of their game.
