Transmission, it's weaknesses, and "solutions" for those weaknesses all seem kind of insane to me. Hey we have this little uvula looking thing on the back of frames which the derailleur attaches to. Usually, derailleurs aren't that expensive these days but just in case, it's meant to bend instead of allowing the derailleur to break. Because our frame is made of steel, we can usually just bend it back for free! How nice! Since we moved on to alloy/carbon, we had to make the hanger its own item. We went with aluminum alloy so it's stiff and light, but if...

The real hack is to pickup the linear XL can for the new SDU. Did that on my 160mm enduro bike and added significantly better sensitivity whilst not having to run a comically large shock. I'm only 165 lb's suited up but I ride fairly aggressively and even over full park runs I haven't been able overheat the thing. Rode an X2 prior to that and have been able to briefly ride a couple Vivids, would buy for a DH rig but don't think it's worth the $$$/weight on anything meant to go uphill.

Different from a tuning perspective. Out of the box, not very different for an average rider. A well tuned shock of any variant will always beat an un-tuned shock of another design. Ones twin tube (X2) one is monotube. If you want to learn more id go watch this video:

I know a few fast people who are on the DHX/Float X for DH use. The story I’ve heard is that it’s cheap, reliable and responds very well to retuning. It has less external adjustability than an X2, but if it’s tuned for you that doesn’t really matter.

Toyota pricing has gone bonkers while somehow staying super under the radar. I bought a 19 Tacoma OR off the lot for 32k. I’m pretty sure a 23 OR is close to 50. Books will be written on the life of the 5th gen runner. It came out when I was in middle school and I’m several years out of college now. The return on investment/development Toyota made off that generation has to be one of the greatest in the history of cars lol. The prices for them basically doubled while remaining identical besides a few facelifts.

If product life cycle length influenced pricing Shimano Saint would be free by now. 😆

From the Enduro Facebook group. Looks like the 2025 model will have a UDH chainstay update and that’s it.

You're living in 2026. We got more reach, we got steeper seat tubes, now stays are getting longer and occasionally proportional across sizes and stack heights are growing. Next step is to figure out that the crazy front centers slack head tubes, long forks and long reaches make weighting the front wheel really hard any time you're not pointed down something steep... moderate head angles let you ride a longer reach and have room to be dynamic on the bike without it turning into a bus. Geometron is already there on their latest bike, though it's still a pretty extreme...

Yup, no Manitou, EXT, Push, Intend, Bright Racing, MRP, or Temu knock-offs. But that just means they're on the list to review in the future 🤙

Layout and exact numbers aside, there really isn’t anything that sets it apart from a Kona. Both are linkage driven single pivots so leverage ratio can be tuned independent of axle path, anti-squat, and anti-rise. But with both, like any single pivot, once you pick pivot placement, axle path, anti-squat, and anti-rise are set in stone. Exact shape of the leverage curve might vary a little for better or worse with either. With a linkage like what’s on Konas, it’s harder to get off in the weeds you tuning leverage curve, but how much you can tune a leverage curve...

I've been away for a while, so not checking regularly for a couple weeks, so I spent a couple hours trying to catch up, prolly 12 or so pages the content and tone of comments has changed drastically in the last year. I can only assume with increased users and engagement, which has brought along with it, a much more negative and judgy tone. I was drawn to this comment section for the rumours and innovation (and spy shots, and great info from the likes or TEAMROBOT, Cascade, Dave, and many others) but I find myself turned off by the...

I watch guys on e-bikes who are more nimble than I am on an XC bike. We can adapt to the extra weight. It’s really a question of: are you into the long quiet meditative climbs? I like them and I don’t need the ratio of time spent up:time spent down to change yet

Was just reading Escape Collective's article about security researchers hacking a Shimano Di2 drivetrain (tl;dr it's possible but highly unlikely in any real-world scenario) and this quote about wireless drivetrains jumped out at me: "Wireless shifting has also made aspects like installation simple and easy to do. In fact, that’s the primary reason we have it, said Wakeham. He pointed out that riders aren’t the main customer for big component brands like SRAM and, especially, Shimano; bike brands like Specialized and Trek are. For the rider, 'wireless isn’t innovation for the user except in aesthetics,' he said, because shifting is...

while i agree that many riders often have "more" bike than they need for a given trail, i'm not sure if this comes from a desire to be "overbiked" or just that many riders have one bike. they need it to cover many different kinds of terrains and difficulty levels - which results on inherently being overbiked on some trails.

The damper is pretty consistent. Damper fluid is designed to have consistent viscosity across a wide range of temperatures… that is the whole reason to have a special oil. Plus the fact that shim valves aren’t terribly sensitive to viscosity in the first place. I’ve run these experiments on a dyno FYI- small % changes at most. Air springs on the other hand gain noticeable pressure when hot. I’m always a bit skeptical when someone complains about their coil shock becoming a pogo stick due to heat. More than likely it’s you and your (weak, non-world cup) legs getting fatigued...

8/28/2024 1:10pm
The larger bushing area and tube diameter of the 38 reduces friction, especially under load which everyone benefits from. The air spring is also more optimised for things like less pressure build up in the lowers from the twin tube air spring while retaining a large negative chamber. The 36 platform needed to extend the lowers and stanchion tubes to increase the neg chamber in the latest generation. Personally I don't see the point of going for a 36 at 170mm, I think the visual difference will make people think it feels "lighter" in the front end but I can't...
