DontWorryImAPilot Added a reply to Enduro vs. Trail Bike - Pedaling Efficiency Measured
6/16/2025 8:14am Agreed. To me, setting sag is not about "getting the right number" it's more about "getting to a repeatable reference point that leads us to the result we want." 30% (or whatever) isn't some magic number. On my bike, for my riding, 28% works better even though their starting recommendation is 30%. I remember hearing about a frame whose designers...

6/13/2025 12:58pm Hey, I’m Ryan Burney. I’ve been engineering bikes for 8 years, and this is a breakdown of what I’ve learned starting my own small business, Rim Saver. In this post, I’m sharing everything I’ve learned while launching a product business in the bike world. What worked, what didn’t, and what I’d do differently. If it helps even one person take the leap or avoid a mistake, it’ll be worth it. Background I made the first version of Rim Saver in college. The idea started out as a beadlock concept, then evolved into a beadlock with rim protection, then just rim...

6/13/2025 12:55pm One time, before heading up the lift on one of my first bike park days ever, I lubed my chain with an aerosol spray lube – inadvertently covering my rear rotor. This was at Winter Park, before it was Trestle, and one of the only ways down from the top was straight shot under the lift. I had probably just watched a Cedric Gracia or Fabien Barel NWD segment or something, so I nuked it down, thinking to myself "anyone seeing this from the lift is probably super impressed." When I grabbed brake for the corner at the bottom of...

6/12/2025 11:34am Riding along and all of a sudden my fork feels like it completely locked up. Gave it one push down on the bars and heard a nasty scraping sound. Thought for a minute that maybe I had come crazy failure of the air shaft or something else inside. Nope! Just the perfectly sized and shaped rock to get wedged between my stanchion and arch. Took some trail-side fiddling but it eventually popped out. I've never seen or even heard of this happening before haha.

6/12/2025 11:34am Oh hey! I had the same thing happen to me too except I got lucky that it got caught between the mud guard and the dust wiper so my stanchion survived

6/12/2025 10:40am I got some new tires, inserts, tape, and sealant. Kryptotals, which ended up being some of the tightest beads I’ve ever tried to put on. Front went on well. Back broke two tire levers. The second broke as the tire went on, so I had to crack it open to get the lever piece out. Got some sealant in, and tried pumping it up. And tried again, and again and again and again. I couldn’t get it to seat. Let it sit in the sun, used some soapy water, everything. Finally, finally the bead was seated and it held air...

6/12/2025 10:40am - One loyal customer had just purchased a new high end road bike, did a few rides and called in complaining of BB/drivetrain clicking. They weren't technically competent to troubleshoot over the phone so they brought the bike in. Roughly an hour drive each way. Bike goes in the stand and we immediately noticed that the front derailleur cable crimp was bent out and ticking the crank every revolution. We shorten the cable, bend it back and send the customer back out into the world. - Bashed my knuckles straight into the top of a sharp road bike chainring while...

6/12/2025 8:54am Sadly Lorraine Truong has passed away. The Swiss Enduro and DH mountain bike rider who in July 2015 crashed hard during an Enduro World Series. Unfortunately, it wasn't her first crash on the head and her brain didn't recover. Through adaptive sports Lorraine started with WCMX (wheelchair motocross, understand wheelchair in a skatepark) and then learnt to sit ski. She was also the proud owner of an adaptive mountain bike, allowing her to ride with her friends down singletracks again. Lorrain even got to compete again and in 2022 she won the WCMX World Championships.

6/12/2025 8:52am In the interview it sounded like Clint was very open to selling the whole shebang back to Dustin when he decides to step down 😀 (And yes, it's much too early to make any predictions but it was clear from the interview that Clint thinks extremely highly of Dustin and places a lot of value on his insight and experience).

6/10/2025 10:32pm I have a creak coming from my derailleur area (I think). It happens only when I pedal hard and it happens whether I'm sitting or standing. No amount of moving the suspension makes any sort of noise. Not a long sound, almost like a ticking but to the tune of a creak. Almost like spokes rubbing...but it doesn't quite sound...

6/1/2025 11:09pm Xynotal Enduro casing > Aggressor DD. The Xynotal continues to blow me away with how versatile a pretty good rolling tire can be. I've done a 40mi XCM race on a DH casing one and even ridden it in the snow with good results. Only thing that could pry it from my rim is a radial Hans Dampf.

5/29/2025 3:45pm i just want to make one last comment re: deleting pics, community etc then i'll be quiet. over the last few years, i've become very aware of how much of a privilege it is to be a part of a community that is supported by some of the best brands in our game. but the key word here is community...YOU all are the community. without you and your sleuthing, your knowledge, your stoke for the sport and its equipment, or your informed opinions, vital wouldn't be very special. with that said, if all vital does is bow down to brands...

5/27/2025 10:11am Looks like you can signup for a Max account on YouTube and watch the races on YouTube. Sign up and billing is right through YouTube via a click or two. I did not see an ability to sign in with an existing Max account to watch on YouTube, however. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWOtYuZpkA0 Is this new?
