2/18/2026 8:28am Nabbed a new Ripmo V3 for a good price. It's definitely a welter weight with stock wheels but a lighter set of wheels and tires decidedly put a good bit of pep in its xc-ish step. I had intentions of getting the rocker and clevis to turn it down to a Ripley V5 but honestly haven't felt the need to with the lighter wheelset. Likely will still at some point (tinkerers gotta tinker), but that's very low priority for now. I've only two complaints with it. 1. the tube in tube routing for the dropper prevented me from running a...

2/18/2026 5:01am I'm hesitant to chime in as I see the discussion has veered pretty heavily towards pricing, but I'd throw the Ibis Ripley V5 into the mix. I've been on one for about a year and a half and it's a really impressive trail bike. 130/140 travel, 29 or MX wheels with a flip chip that keeps the geometry intact, well...

2/10/2026 7:46am Ignore whatever stuff Rulezman is spouting/selling. Don't use a stem for bike fit / reach - that's a roadie thing where they're not turning as much. Stem length has a big affect on steering feel, compounded by bar width, head angle, and trail gradient. Try different conventional ones in the 35-50mm length range and see what feels right to you. If you're sensitive to bike setup, you'll notice even a 2mm difference. In general, if the steering feels too slow, try shorter, and vice versa (too twitchy go longer).

2/9/2026 10:15am I'm 6' 7" and my homemade DH bike with 240mm of travel has 416mm chain stays. Best riding DH bike I've ver had.

2/4/2026 9:14am You cannot make a living wrenching on bikes because it is so badly paid. You cannot afford bikes because they become so expensive. You cannot keep'em working in the long run because it makes very little economic sense. It's pretty effed up really

Dogboy Added a reply to Modular Bikes: Evolution or Devolution?
2/2/2026 4:59pm I feel like Ibis has done a reasonably good job with the current gen Ripley/Ripmo modular frames. Because they aren't drastically different (130/140, 150/160) bikes, the compromises aren't huge. The Ripley is probably a little heavier than it would be otherwise (but maybe a little stronger/overbuilt) and there are some subtle geometry quirks (low BB on the Ripley - I...

2/2/2026 8:29am Obviously everyone has riders they watch and are interested in. Out of curiosity, who and what piques your interest? For me, the Norco revamp brought some fun into things. The portraits were ridiculous (and reminded me of the Royal Tennenbaums, which I love). Just... different. Regarding Brage, I'm about as opposite from a viking as you can get (full mennonite heritage over here. Pacifism and peace and farming and all that jazz). Not into the whole black metal thing, but his riding is so head and shoulder above anyone else in the free ride space, he's absolutely one of my...
