Spotted over on Pinkbike -- Ronan Dunne running his tuned mass damper in a novel location. (More like a tuned ass damper, am I right? Sorry, I'll see myself out.)

So much… it’s just too… ÜBER cringe. It must kind of fun to try and write the cringiest nonsense-copy though: “Thank God some kids stayed in science club, because while you were cutting school, they were learning how to manipulate the laws of physics. Some of those kids grew up to be members of Specialized Science Club and helped make the Vado SL 2 an unprecedented combination of power, speed, and light weight.” Gross. Now I want a Rivendell.

The value gap was too narrow between Deore and XT. Deore did everything SLX did at a lower cost, and XT spec kept getting pushed down because the name (and product of course) holds a ton of value for customers.

I can't help but wonder if getting ride of SLX was based on SKU reduction or if the production costs were too close to XT to justify having both....

Shimano got rid of a component level because there was too much similarity between the groups, many parts basically just had different paint and pricing. Arguably having too many groups can result in there being too many bike models, which gets the bike industry in trouble. Once a physical component set was eliminated, the decision on which name to retain...

I've received emails from most component suppliers that they've raised prices 10-15%. Others who didn't send notices seem to have raised prices quietly. New product launches and updates are often price increases in disguise. The owner of Revel bikes was on national radio a few days ago saying that they'll show tariffs as line item at checkout, kinda like sales...

It's sad that as soon as SRAM purchased shockwiz they consigned it to abandonware. The tech was so cool and it certainly succeeded as a proof of concept, it's a shame the sole major update the platform ever got made it significantly worse for nerd users, which, let's be honest - that's who was actually going to buy the thing other than shops as a fun add-on to bike setup and demo programs. My one sentence review of the Shockwiz is "If the sticker on the back of your fork can get you 80% of the way to properly tuned...

Shockwiz can be a bit shit, but it can also be quite good. I'm very surprised that it doesn't receive frequent firmware updates to improve the calculations. The irony of the current Shockwiz is that only people who are already interested, and thus might already have somewhat well adjusted suspension will have taken the time and spent the money to...

I think the chassis was unchanged, that the differences were in the piston/shim/cone-valve parts and the knobs were anodized red. You could view it as a very custom tune. Those damper parts are CNC machined whether you follow the existing DVO design or make the cone-valve parts. Making new CNC parts just means you start with a different program on...

I'll be straight with you, a lot of the explanations don't make any sense. They kind of give me turbo encabulator vibes. It's impossible to have chain growth and no pedal kickback. The chain tension is always resolved by your feet. No way around that. Whether or not your cranks get rotated by that chain tension or the rear wheel gets rotated forwards depends on whether or not your feet can react that chain tension entirely.

That paint is sick but the black bit of the front triangle looks like a repair job where they couldn't be arsed matching the paint.

They mostly only cover whatever is in press releases they receive. If I closed up shop making an announcement about it wouldn't be high on my to do list. Come to think of it I never sent BRaIN a presser when I started in business. Is it too late now?

This is how essentially all normal suspension bikes behave. The only bikes with continuously extending chainstays are high pivots, and even then they have to be pretty up there for that to be the case. Switch infinity has similar characteristics to VPP and DW-link.

The best explanation of SI I've heard (or visualised) is that it's a "DW"/VPP/Dual link design, where the bottom link is infinitely long (since it can't rotate at all). Which since it can't rotate, forces that oscillation in movement through the travel of the sliding part.

That's exactly how sliders are evaluated kinematically, draw a perpendicular (infinitely long) line through the pivot on the slider carrier and see where it intersect with the line on the other link. That's how you get the IC. It's literally like having an infinitely long link.
