9/4/2026 10:55pm I’m running Shimano metallic pads in my TRP Evo Pros with RS05E 203 mm rotors. They are silent and feel great.

8/25/2026 7:35pm Anyone running a DEG DF with the new generation Shimano derailleurs that don’t have a clutch? I switch from a XT 8100 derailleur to the newest 8200 and am thinking I prefer the hub locked out at 0 degrees of float. With the lack of clutch and stiffer spring, the chain whips around a lot, transferring feedback to my feet...

7/23/2026 10:49pm I’m trying to figure out what Specialized tire combo to run. I already own a lightly used Cannibal - I’m a big fan of that tire. I could run that Cannibal up front with a Butcher, Eliminator, or another Cannibal in back. But, would it be crazy to run the Cannibal in back with a Butcher Radial up front? I...

7/1/2026 9:38pm I am going to be completely transparent here in that I work for FSA, but I will say I worked really hard on making the 31.8 40mm Gradient alloy bar one of the most compliant on the market. and here is the proof: (chart from PB article)

6/16/2026 9:41am I've had great luck with the Specialized Cannibal. I know running Specialized tires isn't everyone's cup of tea, but the slightly stiffer carcass means you can drop a psi or two and help with some of the sensation you're talking about (along with a grippy compound). They work great for the summer dirt surfing here in Colorado. Not to mention they're a few dollars cheaper, which never hurts.

6/8/2026 11:30pm I agree. I think the norm is that reach should tend to be the same or shorter on a DH vs. single crown bike, but wheelbase should absolutely be longer. The only way your wheelbase wouldn't be on a DH bike is if you already have a trail bike with DH geometry (i.e. longer chainstays and super slack head angle). I suspect that's not the case, because Stumpjumpers aren't known for having super long chainstays, and V10's are. But even if your new DH bike has a similar wheelbase to your trail bike, you'll still notice plenty of benefits on...

5/5/2026 1:27pm My only concern would be fluid compatibility of bleed kit seals and o-rings. I used a well-cleaned SRAM DOT fluid syringe on a mineral oil brake, and the o-ring at the bleed fitting swelled and failed. In contrast. A Reverb syringe with the same M5 thread but a red o-ring did fine with mineral oil. I’m not sure if you...

5/1/2026 9:00pm Your progressive and regressive zones are backwards. In general, and I mean very general because millimeters can have large effects on the outcome, link-shock angle 90 degrees or more produce a rising progressive rate, and any portion less than 90 degrees will produce a regressive rate. So just eyeballing that image and assuming 40mm stroke, the kinematic would be regressive all the way through. Orbea OIZ for example:

4/22/2026 9:02pm How is the durability for everyone? I recently installed the DEG DF internals and pulled out the non-floating 90t ratchets, which I had used for about 4 months. I didn’t have any issues with skipping, but there was some chipping on the teeth. I’ll be interested to see how the DEG DF holds up.

1/7/2026 7:04am I’m also curious why Cascade Components discontinued the DHX2 eyelet. Was it because of some issue, or was it simply not selling well anymore with purpose-built mixed wheel size bikes being common now?

1/7/2026 7:01am Just adding a bit more info on things I’ve looked into. Without any corrections, running the 27.5 rear wheel would slacken the head angle by about a degree and lower the bb and shorten reach by about 10 mm each. I don’t think the offset bushing option is worthwhile. My frame has 8 mm hardware on one end and no...

12/28/2025 9:56am I used offset bushings "reversed" when I had a GG that I mulleted to help preserve the geo, and had no issues with them flipping themselves. It's just something to keep an eye on. I only did 1 offset bushing in the front shock mount. My reasoning was that the front shock mount doesn't see really any rotation, but the rear does. If you ran a reversed offset in the rear, that one would definitely tend to flip itself, given how the link rotates around the rear of the shock.

12/27/2025 3:14pm Thanks, yeah I thought about offset bushings but, from what I have read, they tend to eventually work themselves into the short/slacker setting.

12/27/2025 8:42am I’m building up a Wilson 29 and looking into what I could do to run 27.5 in back while preserving geometry. I’m aware of the Cascade Components DHX2 mullet eyelet, but it appears to be discontinued. Also, my current shock is a previous-generation Super Deluxe coil (250x75). What are my options? Are there any extended eyelets for the Super Deluxe...

7/29/2025 3:16pm Well just wanted to share some results on some tire durometer measurements that I have collected of some of the more popular tires in my collection. Method: All tires were measured while sitting on a flat plate of steel to provide equal and consistent backing support. Nothing was measured mounted. I measured the Maxxis brand new out of the box and again after this weekend's Boondocks race at NorthStar, no change was detectable in the results, so I just added the miles that I was at after measuring yesterday. All measurements were an average of 3. The hysteresis of the...

7/24/2025 7:43am With Mavens, the black pad spacer that comes with them is designed to work as a centralizer with the pads in. Pads in, thin side of the spacer between them, and there are 2 wings that extend out into the notch in the caliper. Another reason not to skip on the piston massage (using this piece) after a bleed, it gets the pistons advanced nice & even.
