D(C) Added a reply to Will Lack of MTB Products Make You Ride More Cautiously?
5/5/2021 11:13am I don’t think it will change the way I ride, but it will change the way I maintain my bike. For example, my DUB bb bearing seized yesterday and new ones are locally in short supply. I managed to service the bearing to get it spinning again and will work on sourcing a new bb. But while in the past...

4/25/2021 10:55pm Been riding nothing but the Specialized 2FO clip lite since 2013. In fact, when my 1st pair bit the dust I bought 2 replacement pairs just in case they discontinue the shoe.

4/23/2021 9:52am @TEAMROBOT - check out p. 12 and 13 of the Zeb service manual. Charger 2.1 has a bladder, Charger RC and R use a spring-backed IFP. https://www.sram.com/globalassets/document-hierarchy/service-manuals/ro… Edit: @Allen_Gleckner - looks like you posted the same link before I reloaded the page.

D(C) Added a reply to X01 eagle vs. GX eagle
4/10/2021 10:10pm The GX Eagle big cog is aluminum, not steel. The 11 speed GX cassette was fully steel.
D(C) Added a comment about feature The Complete Guide to Specialized Mountain Bike Tires
4/6/2021 9:41pm With prices on these creeping up to Maxxis territory, it will be hard not to compare their performance against the best. Specialized tires used to be a good budget product, but those days are behind us. Of course, with the anticipated supply issues, Specialized can sell tires based on availability rather than price.

4/6/2021 8:07am Maybe you’ve seen this, but this has some good info on long term durability of the two group sets: https://bikepacking.com/gear/sram-eagle-review/
D(C) Added a reply to X01 eagle vs. GX eagle
4/5/2021 9:25pm I had an X01 Eagle derailleur last me 2 years without issue. In contrast, I went through a GX Eagle derailleur in 6 months before it developed play and lost shift quality. The X01 Eagle chain also last far longer than GX. The GX Eagle cassette, cranks and shifter seemed solid to me. What issues were you having with those?

D(C) Added a reply to Michelin tires thread!
2/9/2021 8:42am Yeah, I know a few people (myself included) who have torn EXO+ DHR II, and there are reports of EXO holding up better than EXO+ due to using 60 TPI instead of 120 tpi. Going back to Michelin, I think they nailed the casing on the Wild Enduro Rear for all-round riding - I ran it all last summer and...

2/8/2021 9:20pm A couple points on Maxxis: - There are lighter MaxxGrip options available now: Assegai EXO+, DHF EXO, DHR II EXO - Maxxis DD and DH tires are folding bead and a good 100-150 g lighter than the Michelins and others. They are similar in weight to heavy duty trail/enduro tires from other brands. - DD and DH Maxxis tires are...

2/8/2021 9:14pm Wish Michelin would do the following things: 1) sort that website out, it's trash - if you're going to tell me it's better to have a harder compound on the front, explain it to me like I'm a 5 year old, not some sort of cryptic weird description like there currently is. 2) bring out a DH22 in the same casing as the Wild Enduro's - a Wild 22? (to go up against MM supertrail/super gravity) - the DH22 looks amazing but for 1.5kg no thanks lol 3) bring out the WE in the DH casing, which looks like it's...

2/8/2021 9:12pm Hmm, IDK... I mostly disagree. Unless you're a pro level rider or a total hack that weighs a ton, a 1400+ g tire + inserts might be overkill. IMO, the regular WE at 1000g front, 1150g rear is plenty sturdy for a vast majority of riders, especially when combined with inserts. Especially if you're also doing long climbs. I know some riders who are near the top of the EWS and their skills and fitness are on a level most can't hope to even approach, even top local pros that are in another league vs most riders are not even...

2/1/2021 9:44am Think they've figured out how to keep the side knobs on the rear from tearing off with this new version?
D(C) Added a comment about feature REVIEW: Cascade Components Linkage Upgrade for Transition Sentinel and Kona Process
1/31/2021 8:14am So my experience playing with progression comes down to putting a MegNeg can on my Sight (18% progression) and demoing a Devinci Spartan 29 with Super Deluxe air shock. In both cases, I appreciated the support on bigger hits and when pumping into a roller or berm, but both felt like they sat too high, which I attribute to the spring rate in the second part of the travel. Comparing regular and MegNeg can on my Sight, I find the regular can allows the bike to ride a bit deeper in its travel, which gives more confidence on steep, rough...

D(C) Added a reply to Parameters for replacing a cassette due to chain wear
1/29/2021 9:04am I have found with 11 and 12 speed chains that if I go past 0.5% elongation (~1/16" elongation over 12"), a new chain will not mesh well with the old cassette.

1/20/2021 1:38pm The two specs are likely to give Devinci flexibility depending on what they are able to source at a given time. The buyer will be lucky to have the choice.

1/5/2021 3:34pm Some of that is likely the wire bead on the Michelins vs the folding bead on the Maxxis DH tires. So I don’t think all of those extra grams transfer to additional sidewall support.

1/5/2021 1:38pm I ran Wild Enduro front Magi-X, rear Gum-X last summer and liked how they rode quite a bit. I thought the casing weights were spot-on as well. I haven’t ran them in cold weather, but the reports of the Magi-X hardening in the cold are concerning. My main complaint was the wear on the rear tire - the side knobs...
