I'm at Leogang this weekend and wanted to get a sense of how widely pedal kickback devices have been adopted by World Cuppers, along with all the other wild accessories like TMD's/shakeweights, electronics, gearboxes, and more. So out of curiosity and as a service to my fellow nerds, I stood at the top of Q1 today and counted all the devices I could. Note that certain devices were almost certainly undercounted, like shakeweights, added mass, and fancy chainring devices like Ochain or Rimpact (drivetrains were facing away from me in the starting lineup). There were 20 bikes total where I...

Haha seriously no clue. Rear caliper connects to seat post? Am I the only one thinking these bikes are getting too complex? Like to the point of being a distraction to the rider? Get a good dry setup, good wet setup and don’t change stuff…. At least that’s what i think I’d like as a racer.

I'd 100% buy a Minion SS in something like this format, tough casing and proper 2.4 to 2.5 width. Probably somewhere between DD and DH casing perhaps? The OG Rock Razor Supergravity was the benchmark - I'd say the Kenda Helldiver is not far behind but maybe slightly bigger side knobs would be good.

We didn't sell the Minion SS in large quantities, unfortunately. More than anything it became an option for our athletes to use in highly specific disciplines (slalom) or conditions. I saw plenty of comments along the lines of "why would I buy a pre-worn out tire?" The sizing was also a little funky on that tread since it came out just before rims went super wide. The 2.30" had a good profile but obviously low volume, while the 2.50" was too squared off and more voluminous than most riders needed. I could see a place for a refreshed 2.40" version...

What really matters is that I believe it's aligned. As long as I think it is, it's good enough.

Everyone knows the only way to get your bars and levers juuuust right is to adjust them with a rusty multi-tool in the trailhead parking lot while your buddies are waiting on you to start the ride. The more exasperated your friends are, the more precise the alignment.

@jeff.brines Is it possible to use RaliMag with just the magnetic part? I'm hesitant to take off the entire chainstay protector on my Nomad because it protects the side and bottom as well. I was thinking of leaving it on and cutting off the stock protector's fins in the spot to mount the RaliMag. For the lower guide, it'd be cool if you made it as an addon part to an existing bash guide (like OneUp), using the mount holes for the replaceable plastic bash.

I had a set of Wicked Wills on my 'fast' wheelset. It was fine if you can remember what it is- a fast rolling light trail tire. I crashed a few times on it, but they roll so fast. Traction was decent on hardpack.

on that note, just so everyone here is aware, there won't be vital videos from loudenvielle (or andorra or lenzerheide) this year. we decided to put our budget towards covering all of the domestic Pro DH series rounds and TN National races this year instead of full WC calendar. hopefully there's an Ed Bull RAW to keep us stoked LOL. lawlor will be back at Leogang.

Holy mother of God!!! I would not want that thing anywhere near my bushings (fork or otherwise)!! For real, as @Dave_Camp said this thing will do all kinds of nasty stuff to the bushings besides burnish it to size. This is what is recommended by GGB for their DP4 bushing (steel backed, sintered bronze and teflon coated, looks very much like the stuff that is used in shock eyelets, probably very different to what is used in fork lowers): https://www.ggbearings.com/en/our-products/metal-polymer-bearings/dp4

I don’t think you get it Dave. We are going to revolutionize fork manufacturing on this forum without ever having visited a factory or even talking to a designer or engineer about the myriad of factors that affect the design and manufacture of said forks.

Can you specify? I don’t know what intend does. But yeah I believe RS is making thousands of forks per day (a lot of volume comes from the lower end stuff you guys don’t think much about- eg Judy). Or at least was during the Covid peak. Tact time is a real issue. I’d worry about those rotating burnish tools...

What are your thoughts on suspension shops “sizing” bushings. I’ve heard some people claim it’s mandatory if you want the fork to work right and I’ve heard others claim that it just makes your fork sloppy and loose.

I know we spent thousands of dollars on precision ground sizers, go/no-go gauges and had countless sets of lowers sized, CMM measured, tested, inspected, dyno'ed etc and STILL had a lot to learn about bushing sizing. BUT sizing the bushings bigger almost always makes the fork feel better, so if a shop does that and cleans/services your fork at the...

The bushings are sized to give minimum friction without having to worry about customers complaining about bushing play. Obviously misalignment from an under or oversized hub width is going to cause more friction, but the tolerances on the bushings are TINY and the basic rule is make the clearance as big as possible without crossing into the warranty loose bushing...
