Lenz is still very much active, at least according to their Facebook: I’ve always kinda wanted one of their FS SS models, but it doesn’t make any sense for me.

Are you sure Lenz is done? Website is still up although very out of date I was always impressed Lenz managed to make aluminum frames in house in Colorado- and had some serious hydroforming tube shapes- not sure if that was in house or not. I contacted him probably 10 years ago asking if he’d do a custom run of...

As a roadie/gravel rider and local poor* who shows up to LA fashion show group rides with the old Rapha/old bike combo, this description was 10/10. No notes. *clearly not actually poor by any reasonable metric

Hey everyone, not mad at anyone in this thread (besides maybe myself). I clearly have ideas and a delivery style that probably isn’t ideal for a mountain bike forum. Robot wrote a genuinely great post (he’s a better writer than me), and I realized there was no way for me to counter it. Not because I didn’t have anything to say, but because I started turning into this (actual photo Tucker took of me this morning): Any frustration you see from me is with myself, not anyone else. I like friction. I like debate. What I don’t like is knowing...

Quick, finger-in-the-wind take: Timing: They sold at the absolute peak. The bike industry was booming, and the broader financial world was drunk on cheap capital. People were taking wild risks (ask me how I know). EBITDA vs Earnings: Most PE guys I know price deals off EBITDA, not net income, which makes back-of-the-napkin math tricky (because we don't have that number). If net earnings were EUR2M, I’d peg EBITDA around EUR6M, though that’d mean an ugly 8.5% margin. More likely, if they were doing 15% EBITDA margins (still conservative for D2C bikes), that’s EUR10.5M EBITDA. Apply a 10x multiple and...

There is a certain company here in Australia that you used to get components in a plastic bag, no documentation, sort of warranty (maybe) The prices were absurd. So the way I understand it is this certain company get OEM prices for bike "builds" that exist in a shipping container somewhere, the bikes never actually get built up (I heard they were road bikes from the early 2000's) but rather the components are put in a bag and priced at heavily discounted rates. It's either genius or totally illegal, I'm not sure which one. But I got some cheap Di2...

I think the primary compensation mechanism for tech bro execs is when they get to imitate Steve Jobs walking around a visually minimal stage design in jeans talking about a powerpoint: https://www.forbes.com/sites/billroberson/2025/03/31/rivians-micromobil…

I interviewed with a guy from rivian when they were setting that up… Figured they’d run for a few years, make some stupid $10k e bike like Harley tried and then go belly up.

I promise you- a SuperDeluxe Ultimate costs a lot more than $79 USD/Euro to make... That was my product line for a long time- I have been to the factory and suppliers where they come from.

The right casing for terrain, weight, and riding style is really important. An often under looked factor is tire pressure. This probably doesn't apply to most folks in this thread, but the gen pop frequently has unrealistic expectations of what tires should be able to do. Such as riding XC casing tires at 18-22 PSI on the front range of Colorado when they're a clydesdale, and then surprised Pikachu face when they pinch flat.

The global overstock issues continue. I'm guessing YT's investments in the USA are now considered liabilities, and they are finding it hard to do business with an unpredictable tariff environment. Right now, bikes from Taiwan are subject to both duties (~12% for regular bikes, 0% for e-bikes) and then another 32% for tariffs. And who knows what that tariff number will be next week. It's not looking good for other bicycle producing countries (Cambodia 32%, Vietnam 46%, China 34%). Bikes might be on sale now in the USA, but I imagine things are about to get a whole lot more...

A buddy at work just bought a full carbon Jeffsy with ultimate level RS suspension and GX level components for $2600 during a flash sale. No way YT is making any profit on stuff like that… guess it’s the only way to move the inventory. Makes sense now

I saw the dual compound version but I really need the exo+ casing. Think the maxxterra is the only one available in that casing.

I had the same combo last season and that Rekon lasted 12 rides before the cornering knobs started disappearing. Amazing while it lasted. Now I run the dual compound Rekon which lasts significantly longer while sacrificing a bit of cornering grip.

Really happy with this setup: lol moped tire Fast rolling and good grip for dry dusty/rocky soil: Will see how they last though- this is 10 miles in… corner knobs already starting to show undercutting
