Just to clarify, that's the gearbox's fault, not the belt. Above 150W or so, belts are more efficient than chains as long as they have proper tension. The belt vs chain efficiency difference is negligible once you throw the 5-10% power loss from a gearbox into the mix.

When I was demoing a bike at the factory in Golden, Colorado (more of a size fit check) November 1st of 2024, all of their assembly stations except one were staffed and they were looking to hire a mechanic immediately to fill that empty station. I dont know if this is exactly the place for this but I cannot find any info about this. People mention that these gearbox belted drivetrains feel inefficient in some scenarios because of the belt and gears. Why do we use belts and not a chain for this? As well, why do people say the inefficiencies are greater in some gears than others? Id appreciate an explanation.

Bushing require tight tolerances and proper maintenance. The cycling industry is crappy at tight tolerances. Most cyclist are crappy at maintenance. It's a win win resulting in the horrible reputation that bushings have. Like press fit bearings, they are the correct engineering solution. But that would require the bike industry to stop being crappy.

It's been done. Rocky, Banshee and others have experimented with bushings. They all creaked worse than a rusty shopping cart after a while... or immediately depending how lucky you were.

Not everyone riding an ebike is heavy and needs a big battery and the burliest parts. I think I could get away with a very light mid to full power motor and a mid 500-600wh battery on most rides. So my bike doesn't have to be heavier than 22-23 kg ready to ride. I think the weight of a frame like the gen 3 levo where the motor is turned and the battery slides out at the bb can come very close weight wise to a fixed battery bike.

New speedframes are a huge improvement, they were gunning for the most safety and they claimed top spot at a fraction of the price of the ares. Both dual density options are 1st and 2nd atm at virginia tech. They fit well, vent crazy and are just generally way better than the outgoing model.
