Back to rumors. Check out this shock. Looks like a new coil shock from Intend…

The following example is comparing three different theoretical bikes that have the same travel and progression, but different shock strokes. I made up a function to depict the air spring. It's not perfect, but it's not far off either. More ramp that most air shocks. This is only a portion of the picture. I wouldn't say there's any benefit to designing a bike around a short shock beyond fixing clearance issues if there are any, though. The reality is there are loads of air shocks that are plenty linear out there. Leverage curves (made them linear functions for the sake...

At 70% travel there is a singularity which allows your spring force to simultaneously be three different values. Some hypothesize that if you can push past 70% travel you will bridge spacetime and land in a parallel universe.

Pretty cool concept. I remember first noticing this on Vali Höll's YT. She rode without the pulleys during practice and then they were added for the final. Rulezman also makes them for his Banshee bikes. He claims it completely removes pedal kickback.

I asked ChatGPT what Sesame Seed was talking about and to be okay with being brutally honest and distasteful if it wants. Enjoy: This comment seems to be a convoluted attempt at drawing parallels between professional bike racing and motorsports, particularly Formula 1, but it’s a jumbled mess of loose associations and misplaced terminology. Let’s break it down brutally: 1. Chain Drive Skepticism : The commenter kicks off with skepticism about recent changes to bike racing due to “chain drive,” but gives no real details or context for what exactly they are skeptical about. It feels like they are grasping...

I am in the engineering department at Push, and we're all big fans of the Vital community! - Matt I guess I should prefaced that manufacturing comment, before I get the "my buddy owns a casting shop and ..." 😂 So for starters there aren't many magnesium casting suppliers in the US (probably because of safety issues 🔥) but funny enough there is one just down the street from us. The problem with most US manufacturers is size, difficulty, volume, and capacity all have to align before they are interested in any new work. In my experience this is fundamentally...

😅 We stubbornly wanted to make the sliding bushing work so bad, probably delayed the whole project by a year. At the end of the day in blind A/B testing, riders couldn't tell a difference so it was ease of service and manufacturing consistency that pushed us to fixed bushings. Mountain bikes are similar to motos in many ways but also different, so not every moto concept is a good fit for us. Sure, putting sliding bushings as a feature on our spec sheet would look cool, but if it isn't actually better we're not interested. And yes, it is...

There are a few reasons why we haven't done crowns. 1. To be honest unless you go really wild with offset, it's an adjustment you get used to and no longer feel. I've gone back and forth between 50 mm offsets on my trail bikes to match my DH bike and then 44 mm offset on my DH bike to match my trail bike and found it takes less than a day to get accustomed to the change. I actually spoke with the guy who did the Outsider adjustable crowns about this and he had the same experience. So to...

Three example bikes with different progression and same amounts of travel. All straight lines for the sake of simplicity. Force at the wheel due to spring rate alone with each bike having identical sag at the wheel (stiffer spring for more progressive bike). Lets say you are railing a long long berm and your rear wheel needs to support 400 lbs of force… if the berm is long enough shaft speed goes to zero (save for bumps in the berm of course) so spring is what holds you up. 27% bike will sit at 180mm of travel used and 37%...

I love the internet. I won't speak for David, but I do think its worth pointing out you've probably ridden stuff he's engineered (he's ex-SRAM/Rockshox, specifically a rear shock engineer). One thing I find really interesting as I get older is just how much harder it is to ascribe real correlation to an event, despite what may seem obvious. Turns out, there are often many variables to consider, and anecdotes by themselves don't hold as much water as we humans wish. In your case, I'd wager heavier/smashier riders go through shocks at a higher rate regardless of application. How much...
