Now that it’s no longer an anniversary year for fox can teams finally ditch those gold lowers?

We have entered the part of silly season where people float (and debate!) wild speculation that a 42 year old Dan Atherton returns to downhill (last result was 57th at Crankworx in 2018) on a new rubber band bike to chase a $100k podium. Perhaps we need an award for most ridiculous rumor every year. 🤣🤣🤣

Dan wouldn’t even be able to qualify for a final. Being a fast rider at your own bike park you ride everyday is completely different from racing world cups.

Rachel Atherton is coming out of retirement for the 100k lol, the bike is being built, and she's probably the most capable between men and women on taking it. Sure it been awhile since she's raced, but I'm guessing she could still be first on race day if she put her mind to it.

Ohlins should try that as they are no strangers to USD forks from Motorsports. It would be pretty cool seeing a classic Ohlins gold USD DH40 on Bruni's rig.

As far as I’m concerned there’s only 3 major players in MTB suspension. Rockshox just updated their entire product line and it seems to be working for them so seems unlikely. Fox might be feeling that their GripX2 launch was a bit underwhelming and could go looking for gains elsewhere - plus they’ve tried it in the past. But my money would be on Ohlins. In MTB they’re the smallest of the three, especially in OEM, so it would be the least risky. They obviously have experience from moto and after their recent financial wobbles they should be looking for...

EXT is working on one. They acknowledged it in the comment section of a post on their new dual crown USD. Not sure if they're big enough to be considered a major suspension player.

When was this canyon drop? was this pre sam pilgrim? who were their " influencers”? We know they are going to take a massive Hit from the Ebike battery drama and there was 2 posts on insta where people had lost garages from the fires, which were taken down shortly before the announcement. The Exploding seat stays on the torque and spectral ebikes seem to have caused issues aswell - as a heap of those posts are gone aswell. I'd happily see canyon as a brand take a big loss, They are part responsible for Headset routing when they worked...

I think the Athertons are pretty satisfied with how the Robotbike/Atherton turned out. Gold and Silver at the Worlds, plus a few WC wins is not exactly shite….

Considering the points he brought along with him I wouldn't be surprised if Danny had the pick of a few teams this year. I'd guess negotiations have been very different for him than they were a year ago.

I'd agree that $150k USD might be steep for Danny these days. But I reckon he's getting at least $100k after some good results this year and his name. This will be the final 'big' contract of his career. Probably a 2-year deal. Maybe $80k-100k base, with bonus opportunity. The reason I think he could possibly be 100k+ is that Danny is a well-loved character, and is a consistent finals guy. Norco is now a full-blown marketing machine and they will find ways to bring his likable personality to the fore and get eyeballs on the brand.

Its not crazy at all to think that he is making more than an engineer at the company, almost any other sport is like this. Its just a bike company we are talking about its not like you need to pay an engineer 250K a year.

Greg agreed to cover Danny's bar tab at every world cup race and give him a bike with full factory support. Who would say no to that offer?
