Don’t we still want metal bicycles from time to time? The main reason seatposts are the diameters that they are are because they roughly correlate with the internal diameter of round tubes you buy from industrial suppliers. messing too much with the seatube diameter requires machining collars you plug weld into the tube to recieve the desired diameter.

Most of the 31.6mm and 34.9mm droppers are just a 30.9mm dropper with a thicker lower tube. The internals and the upper tube (parts that slides upy downy) are unchanged. The world would be just fine with only a 30.9mm dropper. Light enough for XC/gravel/road and yet still strong and stiff enough for trail/enduro/ebike.

The industry can ram headset routing down our throats yet they can't get together enough to have a common seatpost diameter?! I'd love to see survey results for how many want/don't want headset routing.

There is pretty much only 4 size that you see across all bike categories (road to DH) for round seatpost: 27.2mm / 30.9mm / 31.6mm / 34.9mm and 27.2mm is barely used in MTB. I understand the point of 34.9mm for durability on longer dropper but weight creep up fast in that size. I think it's mostly the 30.9mm and 31.6mm that could be reduced to only 1 of the 2. 30.9mm is the better size if you need to shim a dropper in that size in a 34.9mm frame with a thicker 2mm shim compared to a 1.65mm thick...

Thanks for linking that, some really interesting points and math I haven't seen before, for instance: On A Flat 100km Route (0% Gradient) Over 100km, the 1.44km/h drop in speed from the Rohloff to the Nuvinci will add 9 minutes and 30 seconds to your cycling time (4.9% slower). Suspension in civil cars and MTB generates similar velocities, however extremes like 6 m/s and above is usuall thing for MTB but rare for a car. Think it through once more. Last I checked Shimano's RapidRise derailleurs died a deserved death almost 20 years ago and are the only ones where your explanation is actually correct. In all other cases (on derailleurs where you PULL the derailleur towards larger cogs, so inwards) you're just going to slacken off the cable. The only thing prevent the derailleur from coming inwards under a hit is the top pulley hitting the cassette (which wasn't a problem until X-horizon 1x11 Sram derailleurs and Shimano nearly horizontal 12spd stuff). If you've only ridden transmission around in a parking lot, it seems laggy. Once you're riding it on trail and adjust to the fact that you can just hammer away at shifts whenever you want... the lag factor goes away. I can agree that the complexity and cost is meh, arguably not worth it. I haven’t watched the linked video yet, but I have to say; Who cares how fast it shifts? Having T type on an Ebike is beneficial because it knows where to put the chain at the right time. If you accidentally forget you’re in a high-power mode and ham-fist a shift, you’re not going to snap your chain or cassette or worse…

Third from me on Rev Grips. Another point is for a bike park an enduro bike is excellent but nothing beats a full on DH rig.
