Of course it has belt drive. It's like they took everything they could to be different for the sake of being different and slapped it on there. No sale.

While this is for sure cool and fancy, all I want is a 7sp cassette for my 10sp chain. I can either make & space one or buy something that is ready which is what I will most likely do because I am lazy...

You are sadly misinformed. Any DT Swiss hub, I9 hubs, newer Deemaxes, Reynolds hubs, newer Easton hubs--my list is far from definitive--all XD compatible.

Any idea if you could take your existing XO 10 sp drivetrain, get the new 10 sp derailleur and cut the 10 sp cassette down to 7 cogs and add a longer limit screw to achieve a similar product? I know this would still be without the 10 tooth cog but would be cool to try without having to upgrade everything.

In my experience, 5mm in bottom bracket height or crank length can definitely make a difference on rocky trails. This is pretty similar.

It's not that, it's the fact that a 34t chainring allows for more ground clearance without sacrificing the gear range.

about 5mm IIRC. It's not much but it makes a noticeable difference.

It's probably to make sure you don't run out of gears. The world cup tracks are getting faster and faster, and I guess to avoid the - obvious - downsides of running a monster 40 or 42t ring, they went with a smaller cog.

Due to the 42t cog which offers so much engagement of the chain, the XX1 drivetrains are wearing well in my area. This DH group does not use an alloy cog however, it is the spoke protector instead.

The best thing about this new gruppo. Clearance!!!!!! Running a 10 tooth in the rear means you can run a 30-34 tooth chainring. Today we have lower and lower BB's, more clearance is something a lot of us can use. As someone who has broken plenty of chain guides, I see this system giving me more confidence in the chunky chunk. Right now my chain guide is a 36-40 version. I would love to use one that was designed for a 32 tooth.

I've heard this before, and don't get me wrong: 1x10, 1x11 are a million times better than the gear systems of 5 years ago, but once you have used a gearbox system you will never, ever want to go back to a derailleur system. Trust me. It's so much more than not dropping chains. It's so much more than not snagging your drive chain on rocks. You can change gears without pedaling - which means at the last second just before a techy rock climb or mid bombing to prepare for the uphil you can already see coming but there...
