12/8/2020 10:57am I can tell you that I cut my steer tube longer and use about as many spacers as I can, and I often over fork a bike just to get the bars a bit higher. I have neck injury’s and it really helps to get those grips higher. I do notice that I tend to raise the bb and make the bike a bit floppy(at least from the design intention), but I can still shred a bit and the climbing impact is more or less negligible. For example I have a new Stumpjumper 130 rear 140 front stock, but mine...

jackhill Liked a reply to forum topic I don't like the direction of modern trail building
11/16/2020 8:07pm Land managers are very, very scared of letting experienced trail builders do their own thing versus following the ol IMBA model. This isn't going away, and its good everyone is bringing this up. Negativity isn't always great, but managers and builders need to be reminded that switchbacks are shitty trail designs, berms need to be steep and push you all the way through the turn, and letting stuff get ridden in like a DH track is the best way to make dynamic and interesting trails. Lets be honest though. It's not going to happen without pressure, there's going to be...

10/26/2020 5:52pm The absolute best: New set of tires with the right casing, tread, and compound for your riding. The worst: Spending money on any part or accessory other than the above if your tires are worn out or not the correct casing, compound, and tread for your riding, even if the current set are brand new. If you have a brand new set of correct tires, then purchase large platform pedals with long metal pins (at least 5mm sticking out, the hardware store is a great place to get new pins) and five tens (if a flat pedal rider). An alternative...

10/20/2020 8:46pm Something else to think about- if 1/2 of DH bikes are going to rental fleets- why do the renters have to deal with WC winning geometry? How about this 'rental' spec DH bike with geometry more friendly for a family from Iowa to cruise the green runs on? *66deg head angle with 0mm stem = same 'safe' distance behind the front wheel with less floppy steering at 7mph *140mm cranks to never hit on the ground when you're coasting with 1 crank pointed straight down *Single speed- geared to pedal from the rental shop to the lift and from the...

10/5/2020 8:14pm I also heard this. For example, I was told the waiting period for a certain set of Shimano brakes (not told which level of brakes) was over a year.

iceman2058 Liked a reply to forum topic Discussion: Fork Damping vs Spring Rate
9/29/2020 5:05pm It's funny, people often say they "want better damping" as if for example a more expensive fork is going to inherently have damping that "feels smoother" or whatever. If you look at how hydraulic damping actually works, you'll soon understand that more damping will always equal a harsher ride, especially when talking about any kind of high-speed suspension event (talking about shaft speed, not the speed of the bike although the two are often related). Damping in and of itself is not something "smooth", even though it involves moving oil around. A spring is something very dynamic. It resists compression...

9/29/2020 5:03pm A couple things to add in no particular order some relevant some maybe not: 'wide open' does not mean no damping, it just means the least restrictive end of whatever damping range is available in your fork/shock. If you really want to know what wide open feels like take your fork cartridge out, but good luck trying to ride on anything but pavement. The best damper in the world cannot correct for a poorly set up spring. You really do want to be using your available travel, but that doesn't mean bottoming out a specific number of times. 'mid stroke...
