Impressive! Doubt his competitors did a couple 5 minute intervals down a gnarly World Cup downhill track yesterday! Misser gets the Tomac award (heck, don't know if Tomac ever won a downhill and then an XC race the next day).

Would not want to ride with Richie Rude behind me and wanting to pass me. He's a linebacker! Props to everyone in this video.

It is also very interesting how Loic shows how interested in how others think.

I can't think of any way that contract transparency would help these guys make less money. This is a rough and dangerous sport, and we all feel like they are not compensated for their work. There is definitely an element of pride involved in the contracts. I do think a revamp of the actual racing would help a lot. 3 runs, best 1 counts, or multiple different tracks per weekend? Something to give the top earners more screen time, and give us something more than 3 minutes to drool over would be good.

Contract talk is interesting. I feel manufacturers don't want the public and other riders to know how much they are getting paid, as Troy says the top 5 are on some proper money, well into the 6 figures. A rider just outside the top 10 is on a lot less, but without knowing what other riders are on, they have no leverage, no one to compare to and are more than likely being under compensated. The winners of that are whoever they are riding for because its more money in the back pocket for the boss dogg's.

Boom - that was intense. I always thought that Loic did this only to also have a video series like Finn's got with "Fast Life". But this time I really saw two competitors speaking out what exists maybe silently between them, but in an honest and respectful manner. Therefore I also think the format with its "closed" almost intimate setup is chosen smart. I don't think I've seen anything comparable in any other sport. The athletes in this sport really sculpt the way it's perceived way more than in other sports. It's a great ime to be a superfan

Yes, I think these corner sessions must help. I guess a lot of them have access to farmland and motorbikes too, but we do seem to have a disproportionate number of talented racers. In reply to Oz - Yes we do have a good grass-roots downhill scene and Llangollen/Inners are good tests. I wonder if the constant mud helps too? Anyway - I guess the point I wanted to make was that Brendog and those others deserve some credit for making mountain bike racing an accessible sport. One minute releasing a quick edit of messing about in a local trail...

I've lived in Belgium, where the longest downhill is about 45 seconds of flat-ish trails, with very few trails to choose from, and I've lived in Queenstown where I got to ride the bike park every single day for 8 months of the year (+ amazing trail riding the other 4 months). I'm convinced that areas with limited riding breed better riders, since you're bound to end up riding the same (sections of) trails over and over and over again, and it's much easier to improve than if you were riding 10 different trails in one day. It's the age...

Yay!!! Finally someone openly talking about the 29 versus 27.5 wheel feel. And it being The Freeracer makes it feel far more genuine than anyone else. He didn't try to sell me anything. Completely new level of respect for him. Great insights on his passion to just ride all the time, the inability to say NO, his constant & firm affirmation that he's a racer first! Learning about his ACL injury finally, which by the way is the worst injury to come back from. Destroys the cushion inside. He said what I've said to everyone I know...you feel like you...

BetterRide.net Added a reply to How Much Reach is Too Much Reach?

8/1/2019 3:40pm
What? Reach is important because it can't be adjusted and it tells you how big the bike is when standing and descending (which always seems to 50% or more of the mileage that I do). Effective top tube can be greatly adjusted by sliding your seat forward or back. The fact that your bike has a shorter reach but a...

So much of this depends on the fork. I'm used to DVO forks which have the OTT (off the top) adjustment for that first bit of travel. This allows you to run a high spring rate with out sacrificing low speed compliance which greatly improves cornering traction. As the DVO Onyx 29r is still a month or more away I'm...

A couple things to add in no particular order some relevant some maybe not: 'wide open' does not mean no damping, it just means the least restrictive end of whatever damping range is available in your fork/shock. If you really want to know what wide open feels like take your fork cartridge out, but good luck trying to ride on anything but pavement. The best damper in the world cannot correct for a poorly set up spring. You really do want to be using your available travel, but that doesn't mean bottoming out a specific number of times. 'mid stroke...

Ihave learned a thing or two over the years of racing downhill – how to separate the wheat from the chaff as the old saying goes. So when I got the call to swing my leg over one of the most anticipated downhill bikes, from one of the most established brands, at one of the premier downhill riding destinations in the PNW, it took one second to say emphatically, “YES!” I was excited to give the all-new Specialized Demo 29 a good shakedown on tracks I’ve been between the tape on before, and I was prepared to chase Loic Bruni...

This just in, Specialized hates tall people! 😂 Seriously 465mm is the longest reach measurement? 495 on my Supreme DH feels a hair short and I'm only 6'3, for the 6'4" and up guys there aren't a lot of choices.
