Hi y'all, Longtime reader, though I rarely post. Some context I run a small non-bike company in Sheridan, WY. We make a ton in house, import a little, and outsource a bunch to other companies in the US. We do about 40% of our sales in Canada. These tariffs will put the brakes on the entire economy. My business is well positioned to make 100% of our product in the US, which would seemingly be a boon for us. But who is going to be able to buy it? Will our customers in Canada want to buy our products at...

Does anyone want me to actually unpack why I disagree with sethimus (and others) on this point? I'd really like to get back to bikes + economy in this thread but if we want to go down the rabbit hole on this one, I'm more than happy to.

Technically I don't get paid by SRAM either. They support the Canyon factory team that I am a part of, who pays me. That isn't to say they don't support me, but I don't have a contract with them. Factory teams are generally bolstered by sponsorship deals to increase the budget they have. YT went the route of 'uncaged' which meant they were fitting the whole bill and allowing their riders to run whatever they wanted, not taking any sponsorship money so the riders weren't forced into anything. Or so I understand it. So Jack would still get paid as...

They said it themselves - the market is over saturated and there are cheaper/lighter options. If your jam is supporting small manufacturers, there’s already a bunch to choose from. This project has to be on kickstarter because no one in their right mind would fund this project. Especially in a time when established companies are struggling. Why they are doing this, I can’t fathom. This exemplifies the old adage “the best way to make a million dollars in the bike industry is to start with two million”.

Hate to break it to you, but they're never going to go backwards and do wireless 11sp. It's 12sp all the way from here on out

soon XT and XTR are going wireless, shifter similar to the one for the di2, but i do hope they're beefier, the current shimano lineup requires too many adjustments too often, and bends so easily, got fed up with it in 6 months and went back to eagle, it just runs

If I can add my 2 cents here. I don't think Sram paid Jack, or the team, anything. That whole YT deal is that they run whatever they want because they don't take money from any sponsors. Now I think that was changing because the industry is struggling and they probably saw how much money they were losing out on. My best guess is YT asked Sram to pay to support the team and they said no, so YT doubled down on the TRP/Fox association they had already been building. Vali would be the only one I could see saying...

Small piece of advice, take it or leave it, but there are more generous ways to say "hey, I found something too!" As I’ve mentioned a few times, this thread feels more like a collaborative 6th grade social studies project than high-level buy-side analysis. People generally give each other the benefit of the doubt, and the usual passive-aggressive Reddit snark tends to stay out of the room. Of course, do as you wish. I just like to believe there are better ways to engage. @CascadeComponents this was exactly what I was curious about. Thanks for the thoughtful context. In the...

We've obviously talked about this a lot, and I’m in a bit of a unique spot, having played the “CFO” role at a small, vertically integrated manufacturing company in the outdoor space. I don’t think I’m oversharing when I say it’s a labor of love. That’s not to say Intend isn’t profitable, but let’s be real: Kornelius could probably make a lot more money as a founder/design engineer in just about any other industry. I touched on this in the podcast I did a while back, but the IQ level in the bike industry is wild. You’ve got incredibly talented...

So we're likely to see... - Fox 34 / 36 + Float X2 / DH X2 - Specialized Levo w/ 100nm+ motor - 2 new Yeti ebikes likely with Bosch - Wireless XTR + updated brakes, maybe XT as well - Mechanical SRAM Transmission What else?

I always disliked the condescending views about "influencers" and think don't hate the player, hate the game - you can't knock people for having a go at making money from something that they were led to believe could be successful. At the end of the day they wouldn't even get started if there wasn't people watching them, or at least an algorithm serving those videos to everybody. I would argue huge chunks of the bike industry is unsustainable - in its current state I struggle to think of many players who are completely rock solid. Shimano? World Cup racing is...

I respectfully disagree with your observation that influencers aren't effective. While it's true there are some cringy/hacky influencers that make me want to stab my eyeballs out, there's an enormous audience for outdoor content that isn't quite journalism. People love a good yarn, and at their core, that's what influencers are selling. It can be done poorly, but it can also be done well. For instance, Seth pouring Johnson's baby oil in his brakes and testing them for a year. It's not journalism, I know it's a paid ad for Diamondback, but still... I'd buy that for a dollar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63VIuPiX3CA&t=234s...

Agree on the UX comment. The simplicity of the RBTV app is so good. I'd disagree on the timing comment as effective, accurate and consistent timing is a fundamental for DH racing. My point is that what we got from RBTV at Crankwork Rotorua is basically what we always got at world cups. No full top to bottom runs, less women and glitches on screen. Even though everyone keeps barking on about how RB was so much better. My point being RBTV offered an inferior WC broadcast but the attraction was it was free
